4 BHs In An Hour?

I think I just had 4 Braxton Hicks contractions in the past hour (5:55am here.. If I was sleeping I might not have known, I guess). I'm still not sure they were BHs. Belly hardens, feels slightly crampy, doesn't hurt but is uncomfortable.. That's a BH right?

I know I shouldn't be asking "internet strangers" about this, but it's early morning here and I don't think there's a number I can call for an on-call doctor since we're in Italy and the base clinic is closed til Monday. So I'm asking you fine ladies if they do sound like BHs before I call the translator and have to go to the Italian ER. Don't want to do that unless it's what I think it is, you know?

Here's how they've gone so far:

March 14 4:50am 5:20am 5:29am- Very small 5:51am- Little longer Thank you everyone!

  • PS.. The first time is approx. since I didn't start writing times down til the second one.

  • I would try drinking a bottle of water (the whole thing) and laying down. Dehydration can cause contractions.
  • My doctor said 4-5 in an hour is okay, any more than that and you should call.

  • I've been drinking water, but maybe not enough. Probably doesn't help that I slept 4 hours tonight. I'll give it a try. Thanks :)
  • hey, im lurking from the 0-3 months...its dead over there and im kinda bored! but, 4-5 an hour are fine. it sounds like the good ol braxton hicks that i miss oh so much!! youll know when theyre the real thing. i freaked out the last tri thinking every bh was the real thing... my dr told me to drink a glass of water lay down and go to sleep and if theyre real, i wont be able to sleep thru them. • Maybe walk around a little??  If it's BH, walking arond or changing positions should help

  • I was having this same problem, except i was having up to 15 an hour!  And very hydrated.  I went to the dr friday, and did a non stress test and then she checked me to make sure i wasnt dilated.  She said i was closed, and that when they start lasting 30 seconds or more, and I have them 10 minutes apart i need to get checked again.  I guess its becuase im just a small person that i feel everything!!!  sooo im wondering if labor will be worse lol.

drink lots of water! :)..i hate hearing that but it is true.

If they are BH and you are at all dehydrated, walking around will NOT help. You need to drink water and lie down and rest.

It's not the number of BH in an hour, necessarily. My MW said it doesn't matter how many I have, as long as they stop. If they keep going and get stronger, then go in ASAP.
