Laundry detergent rash!

So my LO has been suffering from her very first diaper rash.  I also recently switched laundry detergent.  I assumed that it was something that she ate that was too acidic, so we started using some rash cream and put her in sposies so that the CD didn't get desitin on them.  Anyway, after the rash started to get better, I switched back to my CD with CD-friendly rash cream.  The rash started to spread within 2 days of going back to the CD.  So apparently it was a rash from the new detergent.  Here's the question - do I just need to re-wash with our old detergent, or do I need to do more to get the bad stuff out??

Re: Laundry detergent rash!

  • I would try some RLR - you can find it at Publix or Winn Dixie or other grocery stores :) It will take detergent residue out. Then I think it would be safe to switch detergents.

  • If you only used the new detergent once or twice, do a few hot washes (no detergent) and then wash in your old stuff. Should be fine.

  • We went through something very similar with DD, and it turned out to be a yeast rash. We started regularly bleaching her diapers (1/4 c once a month) and giving her baths in a just-bleached kitchen sink. If the detergent fix doesn't solve the rash, then I suggest going to the doctor and seeing if they think it's yeast. Or, you could just try bleaching the diapers.
