I had one on Thursday because I've had pneumonia for the last week and developed a stiff neck and the chills/shakes were lasting longer than normal. My PCP told me to go to the ER and have another x-ray done, as well as a breathing treatment (which made me really have the shakes). The ER doctor wanted to rule out meningitis since my neck was stiff, so he did a spinal tap. I've had a horrible headache for the last 24 hours and it's not going away. I have to get better. I've been out of work all week, and I need to go back on Monday. I've taken vicoden, but nothing is helping my headache, except lying completely flat, which then makes me more congested. Any suggestions? P.S. I'm jealous of all you ladies out there drinking. Have a glass for me please.
Re: Anyone ever have a spinal tap?
Yes, sounds like you have the spinal headache. I got that and the only thing that helps is to go to the ER and have the spinal patch done. What's likely happening is that blood is seeping out and causing the headache. You will need it to be "patched." It's not that painful and you will feel instant relief. Good luck!
ETA: not blood seeping out, spinal fluid, sorry, typing too fast. Feel better!
I've had two, but didn't have complications from either.
Sounds like you might need a blood patch. If the headache doesn't go away soon, head back to your doctor or the ER. The BP is a simple fix and you'll feel better almost immediately (from what I hear). Bascially, they draw some blood and insert it into the spinal column, which will clot and stop the leaking of spinal fluid.
