New to The Bump

New...and really worried

Hi! I'm new here and really worried about trying to conceive. I've been on BC for 5 years and one of the reasons I went on it was because of an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. I had laparoscopic surgery on it and everything was fine, but I'm worried that I will have a difficult time TTC. We're waiting to try until after we've moved in October.

Any helpful advice?

  • There are a lot of really great women on all of the TTC boards who are willing to share information.  Pick a board and introduce yourself, and I bet there will be with a similar experience.  Good luck!

  • I also had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary about 2-3 years ago.  It was about the size of a grapefruit as well.  I did end up having surgery and they had to remove my ovary (fallopian tube remains).  My doctor told me that it will not affect my fertility in any way and that there are women out there that are born with one ovary and go on to have children without problems.  If you look at my siggy you will see that I haven't had problems getting pregnant, even though both ended up early miscarriages.  The miscarriages had nothing to do with having one ovary, says my doctor.  I was in your shoes wondering the same thing before I got married...how will this affect my fertility.  My doctor says I have the same chances to conceive that a person with 2 ovaries has, because the one ovary takes over for the other and you still ovulate monthly.  I know my situation is a little different than yours since you still have both ovaries.  Good luck to you and try not to worry too much.

  • You should really do a preconception check up with Gyn and then s/he can answer any questions you may have about your history and also prescribe a prenatal vitamin.
  • Thanks so much and good luck!

  • You won't really know your fertilit status until you try. See how it goes for a few months and take it from there. And remember that the average healthy couple can take up to a year to conceive.
  • Keep the faith! I was diagnosed with IF at 19 and spent a few years worried and depressed I would never have my BFP. Well, I got it yesterday and depsite having PCOS and several other issues...we're pregnant. After using an OPK only one time. So it CAN happen and it WILL. Take care of your body. I started eating more organic foods a little over a year ago and I truly feel that helped regulate my cycles. Good luck!
