I'm wondering if I should go ahead an buy a potty for DD

I know it is early but I have heard it can be a good idea to just have a potty for her to see, play with and sit on to get introduced to the idea of potty training.  I am in no rush but she did seem a little curious about her cousin's potty when we visited.

  • I would, my DS was just a little older than that when I got him one.

  • We have been putting Gabriel on the potty for a while now.

  • It's never too early IMO. Too early for PTing maybe, but not too early to have one just in case. We started putting DD on one at 14mo and she ended up being "poop trained" by 18mo.

  • we've had one for Mar since she was 10 months old and we're now up to several outings a week in big girl panties with no accidents.
  • We are asking for one for DS's 1st Bday.  I want to be prepared when the time comes!
  • Wow, I hadn't even thought of getting a potty yet! Guess I should get on that...is there any difference between them? One that's considered better than others?

  • it helps to teach her the sign for potty because even now, potty sounds like "bah-bah" and we started with poops first.  those were easy to catch because it's so obvious.  also, we put her on right after waking up from night sleep or naptime and right after eating.

I think using cloth helps too because when she wets, she feels it, she just can't keep peeing in her cloth dipes and feeling dry like she can with sposies.

you can start by picking an hour (usually in the morning is good because they're in a good mood then) and just taking her to the potty every ten or fifteen minutes.  when she goes, praise her and if she doesn't, it's not a big deal.

it also helps she loves elmo and so we got her elmo panties.  she gets really upset when she pees on elmo - lol!

  • We got one for Aiden a couple months ago, just so he'd be used to seeing it and checking it out.  He'll sit on it by himself randomly if I mention the word "potty" but we haven't started training him yet.  We knew with him that if we got it and tried to train him right away it would never work. He has to check things out and play with them first.
