Prep Me for Our First Store Outing

It is true. I haven't taken LO to the store yet. I've been afraid. I still am afraid. But I got a weird spurt of bravery this morning and am thinking of taking him to Target this afternoon. My biggest fear is that he will start screaming and I won't be able to do anything about it. Tell me about your first times out and how you made it work...please!

  • He will probably love going out. I take my son out all the time and it usually goes smoothly. I would feed him before you leave and bring boob/bottle with. If your doing a pacifier bring that too. My son likes the front baby carrier, he usually falls asle

  • I bring my carrier with me. If baby is asleep in the car when I get to the store I leave him in the car seat, and put that into the basket area of the cart. If he's awake, I put him in the carrier so he can be close to me.

  • I wore the baby in the Moby, put the toddler in the grocery cart, and had the boys walk beside me.  lol

It sounds scarier than it is.  My advice to you is to wear your baby if your baby likes it.  I've never had to deal with a baby

  • We took our daughter out (also to Target!) on day 2.. Seems like most kids LOVE the motion of shopping.

The only annoying part about shopping is the carts - since you have to put the seat in the basket, there's

  • Woah, dj vu. Our first outing was after a sudden courageous moment at 4 weeks and it was also a trip to target.

I had E in the sling and as I was looking at clothes she started getting fussy. This was before I knew what her cries meant so I

  • I know how you feel, I was the same way, but it honestly was much easier than I thought and now I do it all the time. Personally, I've used the carrier to put him in and found that to be easiest when shopping. That way your hands are free to push the c

  • For the most part it goes well when I take DD out. She likes being in new environments... I think she gets bored easily. I usually make sure to feed her before I leave, and if I'm going to be out for a while I can usually find a place to sit down to BF an

  • I was the same way. But then I was so miserable from being cooped up that I just decided that I would go for it. And go for it meant Wal-Mart, haha! I definitely always feed him first. We FF, so for us it's a bottle. Even if he ate an hour or less ago,

  • How'd it go??  I always nurse before leaving and my kids have generally slept through stores.  If they cry, so what?  Any adult in the store should know babies cry!

  • We did it!  Turns out my infant carrier was...not usable (I hate BRU) so I took him in his car seat and put it in the cart.  He was fussy at first, so I just covered him up with our Carseat Canopy and he fell asleep.  I took it off after

  • I love taking him out shopping! It breaks up the day. My mom and I took him to Target on day 4. Harder on me than the baby! I had to nurse him in the shoe section lol.

Feed him right before you go, hopefully he'll fall asleep in the car. Br

  • I was also petrified of taking DS out for fear of judging glances if he cried. I still worry, but it gets better every time I take him out. The cashier at Target told me people only judge crying if the kid is 6 throwing a tantrum, lol. One thing I like
