3rd Trimester

Back from triage- high BP

I have not had any problem with this pregnancy (or my last)-thankfully. All of the problems have been with ME, not the baby. Back problems, H1N1....

But Wednesday I started having high blood pressure problems. It happens around 9:00 am when I'm teaching, and then I feel dizzy and light-headed like I'm going to pass out. So Wednesday after work my dr. wanted to see me. He checked me, cervix is closed but the head is "right there". I was told to take it easy. Thursday I was fine, but yesterday morning the same thing happened and my numbers were 154/96 and my pulse was up to 125. (Not Good). So I called my dr to let him know and he sent me straight to traige on the maternity floor. I freaked out!

Needless to say after almost 5 hours on the monitors my BP went down, and they sent me home. Tests showed no protien and no preeclampsia, so now I'm at home on bedrest for the weekend.

Scares like that make me want to have my bag ready....just in case :)

Re: Back from triage- high BP

  • That's how it was at 31 weeks for me and then they put me on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy starting at 32 weeks when I was in the hospital for High BP! Baby was ok all the time, but it was me.  High BP can effect the babies growth though so they started having me also do bi-weekly NST's.

I am a teacher too.  What grade do you teach?  My BP started to get really high, legs started to swell and I was light headed and feeling off. Teaching can be a stressful job at times.  I miss it though, but bed rest has been the best thing for me and the baby.  I am now 37 weeks pregnant and the baby is still cooking.

  • I was suprised that they didn't put me on bedrest for longer than the weekend, that's for sure! But I teacher kindergarten special ed :) What were your numbers when they decided bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy? I hope I can make it to 37 weeks too!

  • Are you going for a follow-up appointment on Monday? I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor and then was put on bed rest.

I teach 1st grade.  So the LO's are the hardest at times during pregnancy because you are constantly moving.  Especially for you since you teach Kindergarten, special ed.

I actually had high bp prior to pregnancy.  I was on medication and I am still taking it.  When I went to the doctors office I was like 162/83.  It then dropped. This was Monday.  They upped my meds a little and  I went back for a follow-up on  Friday and I was only 135/80.  I was feeling off all week and they put me in the hospital for observation overnight.  While in the hospital my blood pressure meds were lowered again and my BP was better than it ever had been.  It was like 110/67. It even went to 96/65 at one point. Ofcourse I was laying on my left side.

My doctor decided to put me on bed rest because when I was laying down my BP seem to be wonderful and that would be best for the baby and I.  If I had continued to work it would have been up again.  I just don't rest at all when at school.  I'm the type of person that does everything for everyone and doesn't take a break.

Here I am 5 weeks later still on bedrest.  This week though my BP has started to creep up again on and off. I was in the hospital again on Tuesday night for fetal monitoring, but the baby was great and my BP got under control again.

    Good Luck!

  • I wonder if it's coincidence that I'm a teacher (HS Science) and had to leave work early Wed d/t high BP 137/95.  Thankfully my BP is back to normal 107/75, my blood tests were normal and the 24-hr urine didn't show protein, so no preeclampsia for me!  It must be this time of the year that stresses us out some.  I hope everyone is feeling better.
