Blanket in crib: yes or no

Just wondering how many of you let your LOs sleep with a blanket? Everyone thinks I'm a horrible mother because I don't leave a blanket in the crib for my son. They think he is freezing to death each night. He sleeps in a fleece sleeper every night, and we keep the house at a decent temperature (not too hot, not too cold). Everyone tells me that he needs something to cuddle up with while he sleeps, however, I am terrified to leave anything in the crib. I usually let him fall asleep with a lovey and a blankie, but remove it once he is asleep. It's pretty much just him in his crib, but I am starting to feel bad (I guess I'm letting everyone get to me). What do you all do?

Both of my girls got little blankets in their crib pretty early, and both ended up choosing blankets as their loveys.

Yes, I let O have a blanket. I started around 6 months. Do what you feel is right though...if you wont be able to sleep at night because of it I wouldnt use one. Your son has been fine without it kwim?

haha i am the opposite. Most people are shocked that we give DD a blanket. She sleeps in footie pjs but she loves having a soft blanket to hold onto and against her face. So there are several blankets in her crib at all times.

Most importantly though, don't let others make you feel bad about your parenting decisions and don't let them get to you Make the decisions that feel best for you and dont look back!

Once she was able to roll around well in her sleep, I let her have her favorite blankie in her crib, and its been a great thing because she knows that when the blankie comes out its time to sleep.

DD has been using crocheted blankets since she was born. She likes to cover her face with them while she sleeps (I have no idea why) but I don't worry about it since it has all of the holes.

My kids have always had multiple blankets, lovies, water bottles and stuffed animals. DS1 also has lots of books.

No I don't feel comfortable with it yet. I am sure he would be fine. He can pull himself to stand and is practically walking so I am sure he could roll over if he was suffocating...but not yet. We have a space heater in his room so he is warm.

We don't. Mainly because we've heard and read too many "worst case scenario" horror stories of LOs with blankets so we refrained. Although! I can say that when it got really cold here in the North East a couple of months ago, when DS was probably around 9 months old, we draped his thick comforter across his legs for a couple of weeks, which actually resulted in him getting frustrated and waking up in the middle of the night to get them off of him.

So, in a nutshell, we'll be waiting probably until age 2.

I give him a crocheted (sp?) blanket on colder nights, but it's quite breathable so it doesn't scare me.

No. I still don't feel comfortable with it. She might be fine but I am definitely "worse case scenario" mama and won't let her sleep with anything in her crib. We have several Halo sleep sacks that we use. I actually think those are a little better than a traditional blanket for us. DD moves around so much in her sleep there is no way a blanket would stay on her through the night. We don't have a problem with the sleep sack! Like PP said, stick with what feels right in your gut & don't look back. As long as he is warm, there is absolutely no harm in NOT having a blanket. But, there COULD be harm in giving him one. KWIM?

My guy gets a crochet blanket in his crib. But I wouldn't worry, I'm sure your LO is used to not having one. It is everyones choice to make for themselves.

I leave a small lovey blanket (it's probably 11"x11") in the crib: he's slept w/that since probably 6 mos.? My rationale was that it's too small to be wrapped tightly around his face. Although, I truly think that he's probably fine at this stage to have something larger, we just don't need it.

Nope...I'm a worrier, I wouldn't sleep at night worrying. I make it perfectly clear to people that there should be nothing in his bed. Do what you are comfortable with!! You can always bust out the "well my pediatrician" or "the american academy of pediatrics recommends" lol GL!

No blankets for us yet. He sleeps in a Halo sleepsack over regular jammies - which is a good signal that it is time for bed. He moves so much in his crib - we find him turned around and on his tummy and at the opposite end of the crib so often when he wakes up! I don't think a blanket would stay on him!

Max definitely has a blanket. I wouldn't say you're a terrible mom, just a protective one. He's older now.. relax! He can handle a blankie!

Someone is always going to have somethin to say about your parenting so don't feel bad for your decisions. DS has had a blanket since he was born and and since 2 months we've use a crocheted one soi don't worry.I still go take his lovey away bc he likes it to be over his head even though he know how to remove it, it still worries me.

Greyson has a lovey and a blankey in his crib. He snuggles up with both of them and it's how he soothes himself back to sleep.

His love is a cloth diaper/burp cloth. It's not for warmth, just comfort. I asked at his 4-month appt if it was okay to give him a lovie that size, and she said it was.

He sleeps in a onesie, footed sleeper, and Halo sleepsack, and the house is set to 67/68 degrees

Moses sleeps with a blanket, yes. However, we have his crib side-carred with our bed like a co-sleeper, so I'm right there. I'm a really light sleeper and wake up if he even rolls over, so I check on him a lot and would be able to move the blanket if it was over his face. (It never has been though).

Each of the boys have their own blanket in the crib. N could care less about it being there, and usually kicks it off, while A grabs it, puts it next to his face while he's sucking his thumb, and goes right to sleep.
