How does this work with the requirement of carring less than 3 oz on the plane? What about jar foods? What about wanting to bring bottled water to make another bottle?
Well you can purchase bottled water after the security check point, so there's no problem. you just can't bring a water bottle through security. Premade formula/breastmilk and all baby food, as far as I know are ok to go through. You have to announce it ahead of time to the employees working there. I would put it all in the same bin and just announce it to all FTA employees on that belt.
You can fill up as many baby bottles as you want with water, just put them in one of the bins and let security know you've got bottles. After you go through they will pull you aside and do a check on the contents of your bottles and you're on your way.
You can have baby food just fine. The TSA has a section on baby stuff and pretty much if you need it you can have it but you might want to take a look at it.d
I always bring a small insulated bag with an ice pack and the sippy cups of milk I'll need for the flight. When E was drinking BM and formula, I made up all the bottles I'd need for the flight. I declared the ice pack and the milk to any security agent within ear shot. Depending on the airport, the agent would either shrug at me and wave me through or they would ask me to open the bottles so they could do some kind of test on the milk or formula. I've never been hassled about the ice pack. I don't think you can bring a bottle of water through security even if it is for the baby. You'd have to buy that after getting through security
Look at tsa.gov its easier then we think and no big deal it looks like, they have a great section of info with babies and breastmilk, formula and such.

I just saw the info on how to check in online for a child on southwest, you might want to check out the online checkin info for your airline you are traveling.

I think a lot depends on the individual security screeners and the airport. Flying out of Oakland I wasn't stopped or questioned about my full Camelbak, travel container of powder formula, or sippy of milk. Flying out of Vegas, I was pulled aside and my Camelbak and formula container were tested individually and then let through. On the plane, I was provided warm water to make Jake's bottles. They do not provide milk as it does not keep well like juice, water, or soda.

Another question I had except not baby food related but just food/snacks. I will read the TSA section.

Southwest does not have milk available on the plane...you would have to bring that yourself.
