I am very close to delivering and am starting to freak out about all the weight I've gained (almost 50 lbs!!!). I've been on modified bed rest for the past 3 weeks and have worn nothing but stretch pants (which I would NEVER wear in public)...but obviously once the baby is here I am going to have to leave the house.
And spring is here..summer (EEK!) is looming....WHAT am I going to wear? I don't even know if my exercise clothes will fit....my pre-pg jeans and tops will definitely NOT fit...and its making me dread summer...
Please talk me off this ledge....![]()
Re: how long did you wear maternity clothes after delivering?
I gained 40 lbs. I lost 27 of them by my son's Bris (8 days). It was August, so I wore my maternity shorts for about 2 weeks and then went to Old Navy and bought some clothes 2 sizes bigger than pre-pregnancy.
Do NOT be afraid to buy "regular" clothes a few sizes bigger than before you were pregnant. You'll feel better wearing "normal" clothes?honest. Just buy basics.
You'll lose the weight... you will. It takes time, true, but if you're motivated, you'll get there. And I promise to be a cheerleader if you want one.

Thanks Robyn - that is very encouraging...I lost a lot of weight before my wedding in May '09 and got pg right away and just totally went crazy! I am so mad at myself now but what can you do?
I will definitely need a cheer leader when I come over here....hopefully in the next weeks!!
See you soon!
PS...new haircut looks fabulous!
HI THERE!!! You are soooo close now!
I wore maternity pants and yoga pants for six weeks PP. I felt yucky until I could get back into my pre-preg jeans. I only gained 24 pounds, but I started out at too high of a weight anyway.
Maybe you could pick up a couple of capri pants in a size or two bigger than you would normally wear. Maybe from Old Navy or somewhere cheap? That way you don't have to try to wear shorts right away.
Everything Robyn said.
We're all different so be cool with going at your own pace and buying bigger clothes if you have too.

I gained 50 lbs (and I've always had a steady healthy weight) and lost about 20 after delivery. I lost another 5 pounds these past 6 months but still have about 25 to lose. I had to cancel the gym and I really don't have much time to exercise b/c of my long commute. If I exercised more I think I would be down another 10 lbs or so. I wore my maternity clothes for about 3 months after.
I don't think it's realistic to think you'll be down to your pre-pg size until about 6 months post-delivery. On average it takes about a year and even then, you might never have the same hips as before. My shoe size went up 1/2 a size and the same thing happened to my mom. She said she never went back to her original shoe size.
Oh well, at least we have beautiful babies to show for it!!!
I gained 40. lost 20 within a week. Now I am about 4 lbs away from my goal weight. I never liked wearing jeans to start with. I lived in yoga pants, & drawstring capris.
Since summer is coming, you can probably find cute flared sundresses. Look for adjustable straps if possible so if you are nursing you might just be able to slip the boobie out from the top. Flared tops should do the trick to camoflage until the belly goes down a bit. Try taking the baby out for some speedwalks since you will be lucky enough to have a few months of decent weather & the weight will roll off. Good luck to you!
