Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Getting LO to eat rice cereal

Anyone have any ideas. I am in no rush I guess, but he just seems to have no interest.  He screams when I try to feed him rice cereal.  But he is drinking so much formula I thought he should start solids, and so did his dr.

Thanks

Re: Getting LO to eat rice cereal

  • it is not recommended to start until  months. i certainly wouldn't push it, he will eat when he's ready. if you really want to try, then just offer once per day when he is happy and alert.

  • Honestly, at that age, I really wouldn't push it. He might just not be ready.

That being said, it took Jake a good few weeks before he really started eating cereal. He never ate more than a couple bites before that.

  • It will take a while. They don't understand in the beginning that the spoon coming in at their face is to feed them. Our pedi said, and I totally agree, offer it, and if they are interested- fine. If not- thats fine too. BM/formula are the main source of nutrition at that point... dont stress yourself.

  • I personally would drop it for a week.  The more LO leads the way, the easier it is for everyone.  My pedi said to feed the twins 3 meals a day and 1 snack at 6 months b/c one twin is fat and one is thin.  Stupid.  I don't know your kiddo or situation so won't try to venture a guess other than  if he's happy and gaining you're doing great!  SOlids before 12 months really shouldn't be about nutritionor colories.

Anyways, if you wanted to try something else, I'd switch to oatmeal.  Less gassy and tastes better,  Id make it super runny,  I'd try to feed off of my finger.  I'd mix it with his formula, not straight water.  Good luck!
