Babies on the Brain

Can you tell if a baby is head down or not?

B.P seems to be {in my unprofessional opinion} feet first.  Most of the kicks/movement I am feeling are below the belly button or right in that area.

Sometimes I feel a random punch to the left or right like maybe it is a hand, and it is a little higher than the kicking.

Do you think that sounds like he is feet first?

I'm just curious.  I know it doesn't really matter right now.  I am just trying to figure out where he is.  Sometimes I can feel a really hard area, and I think that may be his head...and if so then I think he is definitely feet first b/c that is pretty high it seems.

  • He's probably all over the place. They don't really "lock in" until 33/34 weeks when they start running out of room. So you could feel be feeling his head or his bum and it wouldn't really matter.

    Ah cool.

I was just curious.  It does seem like he moves a lot, so I didn't know when exactly they decided on a position and stuck with it.

  • i could tell because when he got the hiccoughs they were always deep down in my pelvis and not up higher
  • I can actually tell more on other people than myself.  Mine is head down but I actually still feel more of her movement low in my groin with what I assume is wiggling and bladder punches.  She will kick me high too but it's nothing compared to the low movement.
  • I kind of knew where Lucas was/is positioned (uneducated guesstimate of course). The reason why I figured he was/is head down is because there is always a little boney part that moves from side to side (above belly button over to right side (below my ribs a bit). The movement (and feeling of it) just screamed knee to me. Then the lighter movements were below my belly button... along with the hiccups.

As of Monday he is head down and these movements haven't changed, they are all still in the same places I've felt them.

    This is the other thing.

The hiccups seem pretty high.  He actually has them right now, and they feel like they are just a few inches below my rib cage.

  • The hiccups were the only thing that clued me in.  My doctor said that what you are feeling with the hiccups are his shoulders.

  • I think you are too early for baby to be in one exact position or another because at 24 weeks they are still able to move and float more freely in the womb.

I was shocked to learn that Ry was head down at 36 weeks because I swore that she was kicking me in the bladder---turns out those were head butts or punches and not kicks.  Its hard to tell.

  • I thought K was in the right position, butt up, head down for the longest time.

he was breech from 27 weeks on.

  • My little guy can flip completely at a moment's notice. When I had my last u/s..the tech put the wand on my belly, then pulled it off to change a setting and 2 seconds later when she put the wand back down on my belly, he had completely flipped to head down.
  • Anna is sideways.... Her head is to the left of my belly button and her butt and legs are to the right.

I only know this because the doctor could feel her. She does stick her butt out a lot. It makes the right side of my belly push out, it's pretty neat lol.
