your perfered method of taking LO places.

Obviously in the car you use a car seat, but how do you take LO in places... Especially when it's just you, I have a really hard time carrying the carrier, My carrier fits into the stroller but the stroller is also huge and heavy, like one of those travel systems. I probably need to purchase something.

What are your recommendations?

Re: your perfered method of taking LO places.

  • I use the Snap and go frame all of the time. I haven't even used my travel system stroller yet.  I also am not comfortable putting her car seat ina shopping cart yet but Ill have to try it out soon

  • I wonder the same thing.  So far whenever we've gone somewhere with a cart, we just put him in the cart IN the carseat.  Or we have put him in the Baby Bjorn or Moby wrap - but these have all been with DH and I together.  If I go out alone I'm not sure what to do!

  • I take the stroller in if the place doesnt' have carts. If its like a Target, Walmart, Lowes ets. I just put the carrier in the cart. we have a snugride carseat & graco stroller that the carseat fits into. It's not too big or heavy to push around the mall etc.

  • I wear her everywhere! I love my Moby wrap and also have an Ergo. She loves them both as well. And it leaves my hands free for whatever else I am doing. Obviously you would need to have someone else with you if you are doing something like trying on clothes or something, but for grocery shopping, browsing, taking a walk, lunch with friends... I'm all for baby wearing!

  • I also use the "snap and go" for errands, because my travel system stroller is so heavy. I use the moby for getting groceries when i'm alone, because if the car seat is in the cart, I can't really fit much else. Its worked great so far.

  • If i go somewhere with shopping carts, i put her car seat in the cart.  otherwise, i take her stroller, like if i go to the mall or something.  we use her baby bjorn mostly on walks with the dog, she loves it, almost always falls asleep.

  • I just leave LO in his car seat.  It's hard for me to carry his car seat, but I've found if I loop my arm through the handle and carry it using my arm instead of holding the handle with my hand it's much easier and seems lighter.  If I'm going into the mall, I snap the carseat into his stroller otherwise I put his seat in the cart basket.

  • Depends where I go. We have a light weight stroller that we can put his carrier in and I can definietly manage by myself or we use the Ergo w/infant insert. Grocery shopping I just snap it into the cart.

  • I use our travel system at the mall or just put the carseat in the cart at Target, etc.  I love my travel system!  The carseat is heavy to carry, but I take her out by myself everyday so you get used to it.  The stroller is easy to use and is my preferred way of traveling.
  • We have a Snap N Go, not a travel system, and I love, love, love it if I have to go anywhere.  It's so light and easy when I'm by myself with him.

If it's somewhere with a cart (Target, grocery store, etc), I put his carseat in the cart - again, if I'm by myself.

I just ordered a Moby wrap because DS is being a clingy momma's boy lately, so we may have a new favorite method in a while.

For those ladies who use carriers in-store, is it a hassle to take LO out of the carseat and put him/her in the wrap/sling/carrier in the parking lot? Did you do, like, practices at home, LOL? I can just see me, struggling to gingerly put our LO in the sling we have, in the grocery store parking lot while baby screams and I try not to cry.

  • Totally depends on where I'm going.  Target, I put in sideways in the front part of their carts or in the big part if I don't have my son.  If I don't need a cart or a ton of stuff I use the stroller from my travel system.
  • When we go to the grocery store I put the carseat on the shopping cart (I hold onto it the whole time). I didn't have a travel system and last week was the first time I took DD to the mall. I borrowed my neighbors Graco stroller so I could use it with my carseat. I loved it so much that I went and bought a (brand new) travel system from craigslist.

Ella hates her car carrier, so once I get her out of there she usually stops crying. With the Moby and the Ergo I can put these on ahead of time and then just have to get her situated in them. She loves being held on my chest so even if she is a little fussy when I'm first getting her in, she calms within moments. It has gotten easier with use and I have def. gotten faster. There are several videos on youtube for the Moby and those helped me alot. Seeing someone else not only put the wrap on, but put a baby in the wrap made a HUGE difference.

  • I plan on trying to use the Ergo more often instead of the carrier.  I used it for the 1st time yesterday and I really liked it.  Not sure how I'll use the infant insert when getting DD in & out of the car yet, but I'll figure it out.  We just did a quick walk yesterday.

I totally agree!  DS will sometimes fall asleep in his car seat and will more likely fall back asleep in the Moby than stay asleep in the car seat.  We took the stroller to the mall once, I ended up carrying him while DH pushed an empty stroller.  I also put the Moby on before leaving the house.  I have a Beco that I put him in in the car then put that on.

  • I almost always use the Beco and wear him. It's awkward to carry the diaper bag with it though so depending on where I am going I"ll use the stroller.
  • I always wear her - I don't even have a stroller or infant carseat for her.  I find it easy to chase after my 2yo this way.

MrsR- i use an over 1 shoulder sling/messenger backpack and it works great! Mine has a buckle on the srap to so I can take it off and on w/o having to lift it over Ella's head.

Oooh, can you link me to it? I have thought about a backpack but the Beco straps are so thick I'm not sure it will work.

  • I have the snap and go. It makes things much easier.

  • I usually wear her in the moby whenever I take her out alone. Although I took the carseat into the Dr's and target yesterday because I was hoping she would sleep during that time so I didn't want to transfer her for a quick trip into Target.

And I couldn't exactly wear her during my 6 week checkup...

I take DD out a lot during the day by myself and I do the same things (we also have a Graco travel system stroller). I can't really use the Moby or Snugli when I take her out because it would be really awkward over my winter coat.
  • If I'm just going to a store to get groceries or pick up a few things, I use the Moby.  Watch the Youtube videos - they help.  I also tie the Moby on me before I leave the house so I'm not dragging it along in a dirty parking lot.  My LO doesn't always like it at first, so I usually spend 2-3 minutes rocking and bopping around by my car just to make sure he settles down before I venture into the store.

If DH is with me and we're going for a major shopping trip or if I'm walking the mall alone, I take the carseat/stroller combo.
