Parenting after a Loss

LO terrified of velcro, anyone else? (mini vent)

Why does every single baby thing have to have velcro?? For some reason LO hates it so much.  If we take a bib off her she screams, or go to use her swaddleme and it isn't unvelcroed before we get her near it she cries.  I always have to make sure it is ready to go before I try and swaddle her at night or she wakes up again.

I feel so bad, because it really does startle her badly, so I never velcro anything anymore if I don't have to.

I guess I am going to be on the hunt for bibs that tie or button (may have to make them if I have to), and figure something else out for swaddling her.

Okay, mini vent over.

  • it's probably time to start weaning from the swaddle anyway since your LO will start rolling soon and then it won't be safe for her to sleep in the swaddle.

as for the velcro issue - my LO isn't scared - but i hate velcro in the laundry - gets stuck to things and makes everything a mess.  i look for bibs with snaps!

We're working on the weaning, she already rolls over front to back, but is seriously working on the back to front.  Hopefully we'll be able to get rid of it soon!

Have you found bib's with snaps? I swear everytime I see any in a store I go through all of them looking and can't find any!

  • i have some carter's bibs that i really like with snaps...  off to look for you...

and GL with weaning the swaddle.  just start doing it more loosely at night and see if you can gradually get away from it.

ETA - don't make any bibs that tie around the neck.  it would be a strangulation risk.  velcro and and snaps come undone if the baby got caught on something but a tie would not!

  • I have the carter's bibs with snaps, but find the snaps very hard to get undone so I like the velcro bibs better. guess that's why they make so many varieties - everyone like something different! If you're going to keep swaddling, I'd highly recommend the Miracle Blanket. No velcro or anything, you just wrap them in it and it's the best - only thing LO can't get out of. GL!

Come to think of it, I think we may have a miracle blanket that was given to us at our shower, I will look tonight when I get home. Thx!
