Luna's Sad IVF Update (long)

First of all, I saw all of the well-wishes last week while I was at my appointment so I want to thank you guys. It meant a lot. Here's my update:
My first appointment was with only a nurse. She gave me my med protocol and told me that my RE suddenly and without warning retired and is no longer there. 
Then I got a call the next day to tell me that the nurse gave me the wrong protocol and I got a new one without full training on the new meds. 
Then I meet with the RE who is filling in for my sweet, wonderful, optimistic RE who left. The new RE tells me that we should not expect this to go well, my eggs are too old, he would never have recommended doing this without using donor eggs and to expect the worst. He gave it a 5% chance of working and wants to call it a "Convert to IVF" instead of IVF. What this means is that if I don't produce at least 4 follies at 16mm or better, he will cancel it and won't let me continue without donor eggs. 
Then after all of that news, while I am crying my eyes out, he says "OK, that's the last time we will talk about any of this because if we are going to do it we need to be positive and believe it will work". Wow, thanks. I believed it would work until you told me it had no chance in hell. Thanks new RE. 
HOWEVER, I say F that guy, I am going to prove him wrong and this IVF will work. He made me want this to work even more now. If it doesn't, I will find a new RE. I'm not ready to give up yet.

This is your cycle, and I can't wait for him to eat serious crow.
I sooo hope this IVF cycle works for you luna! I got sad news from the IRL friend who has done (now) 6 failed IVF cycles. They are now moving on to donor eggs for the same reason. Their last cycle -that just ended-they only had 1 embie...and it did not take. IF and getting old sucks the big one!

OMG, Luna, no!!! That is so unfair. WTF, you RE retired and you never heard?
Do you go to CCRM? There's a lady in my support group who went there after like, I dunno 72 failed IVFs and 438157 failed IUIs. She LOVES them. There's another lady considering going (from Arizona).
I do not go to CCRM but it's funny you mentioned it because I just told DH last night that we are going there if this doesn't work. I loved my RE. He went on a leave of absence a month ago and they just told me that he isn't coming back. There's no way I'm staying at this place if this IVF fails.

2 years of TTC, Seeing RE Feb 09, 2 medicated TI cycles - BFNs, 3 medicated IUIs - BFNs, back to medicated TI cycles until IVF approval, IVF approved in March 2010. BFP on last medicated TI cycle.
The meds have been ordered so I think I will go through with it. All the insurance has been straightened out and all. I don't want to delay it. Especially if my eggs are wilting.

I actually have b/w scheduled for tomorrow and I start the estrace on Wednesday. I have been preparing my body for this IVF for 4 months now so I don't understand why all the negativity, you know? Why is he assuming it won't go better than the last one?

I'm sorry Luna. What a terrible thing for him to say to you. I am hoping and praying that you prove that jerk wrong. Hang in there Luna. ::crossing my fingers and toes for you::
What a terrible way to start out a new relationship with the guy. He seems so matter-of-fact and sticks with statistics... but come on! Even science is wrong sometimes. There are plenty of happy older moms that I would bet would be willing to show him he's wrong!
BTW - I have a beta on Friday and if its negative, start BCP next week. I finally got approval! We'll be in this together!
