My rib feels broken.

Ok, Bump Doctors - tell me what I've done to myself.  It's the rib under my bra line.  To my knowledge, I have not bumped myself or fallen.  And, I'm betting the possibility of either is highly unlikely unless someone drugged me at some point yesterday.

It's not swollen or bruised, just owie.  Doesn't hurt more or less when I breathe, but hurts much more when I bend to the opposite side.

Thoughts?

  • Front, back, side?

  • Stupid question.... Are you in the right size bra?  Mine feels that way when I wear the wrong everything in a bra.
  • Doesn't something happen to loosen up your cartilage/connective tissue during your pg?  Maybe with that you pulled something - Glad can probably enlighten, but I thought that your ribs had a fair amount cartilage with them???

I'm sure the band size is wrong but too big, rather than too small.  I can't stand to have stuff touching me so I always go a size up in the band.  It's wireless, too.

  • Interesting.  Have you tried chiro?
  • I have a chiro. appt. tomorrow.  My back (opposite side, shoulder blade) has been all jacked up since Thursday.  I hope it fixes both!

  • It's highly possible it will.  They're all attached, you know.  ;-)

Seriously, be sure to tell him/her about the pain you're having.

  • I definitely will!  And I'll report back. :)

  • Have you ever had gallbladder problems?

Have you ever had gallbladder problems?

I haven't, but that's something that actually really freaks me out.  I'm the only person on my mom's side of the family who still has their gallbladder.  We're a genetic mess in that area.  I feel like a ticking bomb.  But, I'm not having any issues while/after eating or anything like that, so that's probably a positive, right?

  • I had TONS of rib pain in my second trimester. It felt like I had been kicked in the ribs repeatedly. Sometimes it was so bad that if felt like my ribs were being pushed out from the inside. I asked my doctors and they just attributed it to normal pregnancy. It went away about 1 1/2 months ago. It always helped it to lay down, or sometimes to stretch really well for awhile and hold it.

If its right side rib pain they will tell you it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

  • Welllll, if the chiro doesn't help significantly, I'd for sure call my ob to see what s/he says.
  • Pre-e and/or gallbladder.  Now I'm scared. :(  Luckily for me I have my MIST pre-e screening in two weeks, I guess. *sigh*

Please oh please oh please let the chiro help.

  • The only reason I said OB is because my OB/GYN wanted me to call her for EVERYthing when I was pregnant.  Otherwise, I would have said to call your PCP.

    I hope it's just a subluxed rib.

    ((hugs))

  • Just wanted to say that I too tried the chiro and it didnt help. But hopefully yours will. And dont panic, seriously. Mine was nothing. Just normal pregnancy pains and aches. It went away and was replaced with fun lower back pain.
