First time post - really bad gas/bloating pain?

Hi everyone - this is my first time posting, and just wondered if anyone else was having this problem. For about the past week, I've been having really bad cramps. At first, I thought it was real cramps, went to the doc, and they found nothing out of the ordinary. So now, I think that they are just really bad gas, bloating, and constipation pain. It comes in waves for about 10-20 min a couple times a day, and its so bad that I have to sit/lay down and do Lamaze type breathing to get through it! I've tried a bunch of things to make it better, but don't want to try any meds (Ex-Lax, Gax-X) til I see the doc again this week. Is anybody else going through this?

  • Yes.  I just made a big batch of bran muffins (same ones I had for after DS was born) and they were miracle workers then and I'm hoping for the same now.  They're still in the oven, but if you want the recipe...

Also, it does help if you keep downing the water... hope it passes for you

  • Yeah, constipation can be really painful...I got a sick a few months back, and then ended up really constipated also, and I was worried I was having serious stomach/bowel problems. Not cool.

Stay away from processed foods, eat tons of raw fruits and vegetables, beans or prunes. There's fiber supplements that are just made of fiber - Fiber Choice isn't too sick, and like PP said, lots of water. hth

  • I am going through the SAME thing. I even went to the ER for the pains b/c I wasn't sure what was going on. I've just concluded on my own that it's gas/constipation. My doctor said to take Colace. I don't recommend you do anything without consulting your doctor, of course, but couldn't you call to the office? You're definitely not the only one going through this by any stretch of the imagination. I just didn't know if would be like this!
  • Thaks! As much as this particular symptom SUCKS, I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one (I actually cried a little when I saw these responses - thanks a lot hormones!). I have tried the Colace (my preggo friends said this is generally regarded as safe), but still no improvement for me. I'm definitely going to try the bran muffins suggested - they get rave reviews!
  • Same thing was happening to me.  I read to try psyllium husk.  I just mix it in water/milk and it will ease your stomach.
