Babies: 3 - 6 Months

SUPER vent. No lie. Also, SUPER long.

OKay, if you don't want to read my biitching- save yourself 3 minutes and stop now.  Fo shizzie, I am going to complain.

For starters, we have moved.  We have moved about 3 hours from our old home.  We sold our house- well, mostly sold our house.  The lender that the buyer has is a complete putz and has taken forever doing his loan crap.  Since he has taken forever, we can't buy our new house yet. Hence us living in an extended stay.  With a "fully equipped" kitchen- 2 pots and no oven equals fully equipped at the extended stay- I digress.

Since we have moved, I have been trying to find a new pediatrician for E.  I loved our old pedi, she was great and not nosy and totally pro extended bf (like 12 months, not 7 years or anything) and cosleeping.  I have been trying to find a new one and spent many hours researching.  I found one and scheduled her intake appt for Monday.

Soooo... last night at 2am, E wakes up coughing like crazy with a terrible stuffy nose.  This morning I call the new medical group, they dont' have any openings until Monday (when we already have an appt), so I called a few more pedis to see if anybody had anything.... nada.  So, I called "our doctor" back and she suggested I drive 30 minutes to an urgent care and see one of the doctors from their medical group there.

I pack up baby, head to urgent care.  The receptionist tells me it's up to the doctor if he wants to see a baby younger than 6 months.  Which he does not.  Of course.  So I call my friends pedi in the next town over that has walk ins from 1-3.  The receptionist explains it's not first come- first serve, it's totally who doc wants to see when- wtf?

At this point, E is coughing up a storm in the backseat and I'm on the verge of tears, overwhelmed with guilt that my poor baby doesn't have a doctor yet.  So I ask her where I should take my sick baby, since no one will see her.  She refers me to the ER.  What a fuucking waste of resources for me to go to the ER to be checked for a freakin' cough and stuffy nose.  I felt ridiculous, but at the same time, I wanted her checked for pneumonia and to be told what meds/dosages she could take.

Anyways, long story short, I drove around from 9-2, finally got the baby seen.  She has a common cold and is sleeping on me after having some vicks baby rub and saline drops.

Thanks, she hasn't coughed much since we used the Vicks baby rub.  I'm glad I got her looked at before the weekend.  I was just shocked that nobody would see her! Siiigh, too much stress right now, haha.

  • That sounds super frustrating! I am sorry you had to deal with all of that and I am glad she is feeling better!
  • What a day! Hugs to you and I hope your LO feels better soon.

  • That's a craptastic day.  I am so sorry.
  • Wow, that sucks... I didn't give my doctor a choice about seeing the baby... I just went to him back in march, told him I was prego, he started all the stuff, asked me what hospital I wanted to deliver at, saw him a couple more times after that, then didn't see him again until 2 days after the baby was born (He referred me to an obgyn group cuz I didn't want to deliver at either of the 2 hospitals he's associated with)... then went in, and said "I was told she's supposed to be seen by her doctor within 2 weeks, so... here she is" and he's been her doctor ever since.
