Having worked in residential real estate as a paralegal, you would {not} be surprised how many people think what she is wanting to do is okay.

Back in 2002, we had a lot of people doing this, because the town where I worked was falling quickly...they wanted to move out to a new place.

People are fvcking idiots.

That drives me crazy too!!! We would love to move out of our neighborhood right now but we know witht he market it would never happen. So guess what we are doing? Staying put! What a spoiled little princess.

I agree. My DH is a realtor (his 2nd job) and his sister always looks for the easy way out of things. He listed her house, only for her to turn down every offer b/c she felt she wasn't "getting enough" for it (She could have walked away with $3000). His mom kept telling her to file bankruptcy or just stop paying her mortgage (foreclosure). DH has been so frustrated b/c he wants to see the market pick up and is tired of seeing people who just don't want to pay for their homes anymore, or bought something that they could not afford to begin with. He is doubly pissed that his own mother is telling her to shirk her responsibilities (I believe this is why she is the way that she is by never being forced to be a responsible adult, don't get me started).

We foreclosed on our condo in Orange County. Our mortgage company wouldn't let us rent it, nor did we qualify for any loan modifications. We needed to move for various reasons. It was our only option.

I've worked in either residential or commercial real estate for 8 years on both the law firm side and the financial institution side. She's an idiot if she thinks she won't get caught.

From what this girl says though, they don't need to move, they just want the shiny new toy, so to speak. Not the same IMO.

How would they know if you rented it?

We had asked them about that when we talked about the modifications. They probably wouldn't have known if we did it behind their backs, but that's not something we were comfortable with.
