Babies on the Brain

my doctor's office just emailed me.

And told me to bring my "proposed" birth plan to my appointment next Thursday so we can "review" it and make sure my expectations are reasonable.

That seems like a lot of work.  I don't really have any special requests.  I trust that the doctor is going to make the right decisions.

Can I just write:  "Do whatever, dude.  I trust you."

I really have no expectations.

Re: my doctor's office just emailed me.

  • Thats pretty much how my birth plan would go if I were to write one.  The only thing I request is that if I do have a c-section, I want to be able to hold my babies before anyone else, minus DH.

  • do you have any special requests about who is allowed in while you labor?

    questions about their photography/videography policies?

    etc...

  • I think it's a little odd that they want to discuss it so early.  So much can change between now and then, and your 24 week birth plan can go out the window.  My OB wouldn't talk much about it until after 32 weeks (and then only because I had twins and preterm labor and was expected to go early).
  • Are you going to have a c/s?  I don't know if that was decided.  My bff didn't want them to weigh/measure her 2nd until they were done working on her and surgery was over.  She also didn't want anyone but the medical staff or her DH to hold her baby before her.  For her 1st, her mom held the baby first and that still bothers her.

Not really.  Only DH is coming with me to the hospital.

I told him if he takes any video or pictures before B.P. is actually here I'll kill him, because I do not need to see what I look like during labor.

The hospital provides meals, drinks, etc etc.

I think because Northside is so comprehensive in their maternity package, it leaves me questionless.

I want a glass of wine, but I'm going to try to breastfeed....so I'll skip that.

ditto this. only 34 weeks and thats because of of other issues (and not twins).

It is still up in the air.  They are going to make the call around 30-32 weeks.

B.P. is measuring ahead, and they need to see what that does to my organs or something like that.

I really need to start paying more attention at the doctor's office.

I am kind of wondering if a lot of woman are completely unrealistic, and they just try to nip it early.  You know?

Of course, since I've been saying from the beginning "If you can get me on your surgery schedule I would really appreciate it." I don't know how there could be any confusion about how badly I would prefer a c/s...but they aren't willing to decide for sure yet.

I wish I could have.   I was sooooo zonked I could only hear - couldn't even open my eyes at.all.    Couldn't hold her until an hour and 45 mins later.

    Sad

  • what kind if any pain medication, who's in the room, light dimming, music, if you want to see the baby coming out, if you want the baby cleaned before holding him, breathing techniques, i had one but it's on my old computer.

there are a lot of things to consider and a lot of research. at the time i used hippy's as a reference (is that name forbidden now? lol) and a couple websites. you learn a lot trying to develop a birth plan

well hump me running, lol. there are also c/s birth plans they're just more rare and hard to find. i had a supplement to mine with a c/s plan

Oh, please please please change your mind and let him take a pic or two of you in labor.  I didn't want any either, but DH took a few anyway.  I think I look awful and don't show them to anyone else, but I do like to go and look at them sometimes.  I'm glad that he didn't listen to me and took a few during the labor.

  • My birth plan was-

    I dont want a c-section

    I am getting an epidural

    I want my son Circ'ed

I had a c-section. The doc delivered my baby, handed baby to nurse, my husband held the baby (of course) and then while they stiched me up, my husband and my best friend loved on her. When I got wheeled into my room, and saw my baby being held by my best friend...I thought I'd be upset, but both (baby and friend) mean the world to me, so I was happy to learn that they got acquainted. :shrugs: "no biggy."

Hm I didn't realize these things.

I guess I'll have to put something together.  I think BabyCenter.com has one I can download.

I'm delivering in late June...I do believe DH wants baseball on tv.  No music.  HAHA.

  • Preppy, some people are complete BSC when it comes to their birth plan.  Like "I am refusing an IV" but "I want an early epidural".  Well there is no epidural without an IV, and it's best to find that out before you're in labor.

Funny how people think.  I am amazed by it daily.

  • Mine said--I would LIKE to go natural and have a vaginal delivery w/no episiotomy BUT...whatever.

I ended up with pit; an epi; and a HUGE tear instead :-)

Ditto ditto---we did not dicuss until I was 36 weeks and I think I brought it up and then nothing went as I wanted anyways.
