I have a co-worker with a friend who named their son Atlas Marley (after the Greek god and Bob Marley) and their daughter Zepplin Athena (Greek goddess and Led Zepplin)!
I freakin love those names, but totally couldn't pull them off for my kids!
I refer back to my earlier post about modern names sounding more appropriate for pets. Both these names sound great for black labs, but not people. JMO.
DH's friend and his wife just named their son Ture. (tour)
I also just heard a girl I went to school with named her daughter Crickett. I wanted to say I thought it was awful but no one else that I was with seemed to think it was bad.
My older sister named her daughter Quincee Elaynah. Ugh. As if "Quincy" for a girl wasn't bad enough, it's like she took both names and messed with them to see how f-ed up she could spell them.
Does anyone other than me think people have turned into total AWs when naming their kids? It's like, "Oh, my name HAS to be unique because my kid is more special than anyone else's."
I grew up with a very unusual first name and it was actually kind of difficult at times. No one ever pronounced it correctly. After a lifetime of being called by the wrong name, it was really important to me to give my children a name that people would recognize and pronounce correctly.
As a teacher I've had some good ones. Twins Daverbulous and Shawventina. I also had a girl Clamidia, I called her Lidia and labled all her stuff that b/c I just couldn't call a 5 yr old Clamidia. I'm sure more will pop in my mind later

OMG! Claymidia! I had in one class Demone, Jemone, Shawentica, Tyrone and Jamon. Some of them rhymed which made it even harder.
I taught a girl a few years back named Echo and this year I have her brother, Canyon. Not too weird, but strange. Teaching in a small country town you don't get too many unique names. I went to school with a girl named Pepper--which for us was different.

I have friends that named their son Renzo, after the architect Renzo Piano (dad is an architect), and the call him Ren for short. I think it's one of the most bad@ss names ever, their kid is awesome, and I love that the name has special meaning to them.

Saw one yesterday in the paper...Jupiter
I've also seen a 'Ruby Scarlet Crimson' before. I guess her parent's like the color red?
I work with health insurance claims and I just came across a little girl named Alilai.

Not cool.

We considered the name Zeyas ( pron- Zay -as) but DS thought it was going to cause too many problems.
I also hear of a girl named la-a ( pron - La -Dash -a ) OMG I busted a gut at that one !!!!
Here are some of my unusual kid's names this year (I'm an elementary music teacher)
Princess Unity, Precious, Chyna (like China), Unique, Oyuki, Isboset (I think this may be a traditional Spanish name)
I grew up with a girl named Candida... we shortened it to Candy, when she found out what it meant & she was mortified! No, she's not a stripper lol.
A couple of friends called their son Sheriff & their daughter Yannicka.
I've also heard of that Ladasha name, but I think it's a myth (it's always from someone's neighbour's brother's coworker or some such thing lol).
