Yes, I'll call Dr. S's office and ask the nurses. But my laptop is beside me and the phone is MIA, so in the meantime, I'll ask you all.
So I had him write me an RX for the pill yesterday. Clearly, charting and p&p (our method of BC after Anderson) were NOT as effective as I thought they would be (see exhibit a- top ticker).
I spaced out on asking whether I can start the pills now, or if I need to wait for a period? Last time around I didn't get my first pp period until DS was about 4 months old (no BFing) - so if I start it now, will it force my period to start in 3 weeks when I get to the last row of pills?
Does that make sense? Did anyone start the pill before their period returned?
Re: dumb question about the pill
None of this directly answers your question, but are things to consider:
Read the package insert. There should be a patient education section that is easier to read and filled with less medical jargon.
Is this a progesterone-only pill? If so, you may not get a regular period on it (according to a pharmacist I talked to once).
The progesterone-only pills (which is what is safe to take while breastfeeding--you cannot take a combination pill) contain all active pills instead of a combination of active and inactive pills.
The days with inactive pills (the "sugar pills") are what trigger the withdrawal bleed (your period while on the pill). Since there are no inactive pills, you may not get a period at all or you may get irregular periods.
Also, if you will be taking a progesterone-only pill, be aware that it is not as effective as a combination pill. Make sure you take it at the exact same time every day or else use a back-up barrier method. You also need to use a back-up method for a while when starting the pill. As for how long--I'm not sure; that is a question for a pharmacist or a doctor.
ETA: I thought the whole no inactive pills thing was kind of weird--which is why I mention the stuff I wrote above. It's not like Seasonale or Seasonique--which have 12 weeks of active pills followed by one week of inactive pills.
I am just impressed that you are thinking about this 2 weeks after having V. Seriously, way to go. Maybe I'm just worn out from TTC, but if this one works out for me I am planning on becoming a born again virgin.
