Just wondering if anyone had an elevated WBC count during their preg. and was not sick or did not have an infection or anything. And, if you were told at all that during pregnancy that a persons WBC can be a lil elevated.
My white blood cell count was elevated when I ended up in the ER for suspected appendicitis in the 1st trimester.
Since they couldn't do a CT-scan, and they couldn't see anything on the ultrasound, they decided to do surgery as all the 'clinical symptoms' were there.
I asked the surgeon if an elevated white blood cell count was a good sign I had appendicitis, and he said no, sometimes pregnant woman's white blood cell counts are elevated and nothing is wrong.
I know that's random, and not really an 'authoritative' answer for you, but thought I'd throw that in because my surgeon had told me that. And yes, I did end up having appendicitis and had it removed that afternoon.
I just did a quick search and I'm finding a lot of sites that say it is not uncommon to have a high white blood cell count during pregnancy. One site even said a simple cut could raise your white blood cell count. I am guessing it also depends on how high the count is. What did your doctor say?
When I had my first CBC done in Dec. my WBC count was an 11 (the "normal" range goes up to 10.8 - so no big deal. So when I went back in Jan. for my nxt OB appt. they did a clean catch on me (for routine reasons) - well they found a little bacteria that they wanted to treat so I went on antibiotics. I had no symptoms of a UTI (bc they said the bacteria was so minimal that it would not cause any symptoms). So then in Feb. they did another clean catch to make sure everything was gone it was ;o). However, I went to my primary care dr. and she did a CBC on me and called yeaterday after my OB appt. to tell me my WBC was a lil elevated. I am due to get my OB blood work done in two weeks so I called my OB office bc my new WBC is 14.5. So, my OB left for the day but one of the others said not to worry right now bc during preg. the WBC count can be elevated. She also said that "normal" for being preg. would be around 12.5 not 10.8. So, I trust my dr.s but just was wondering what you guys have gone thro. So, yesterday they did a clean catch (going back to Jan - just to make sure everything is still ok) so we will see how that comes back and then I have another CBC in two weeks. Just made me wonder ya know???
Also, I think antibiotics raise your white blood cell count. Did the doctor mention anything about that possible link? If I read correctly your count was raised after the antibiotics. Not sure how long and how much it would be elevated though.
Yeah - but I have been off of the antibiotics for a while now - So, I guess we will see how the clean catch comes back and the nxt CBC. I am sure it is nothing - if it was something to worry about I know my dr.s would say so ;o)

Pregnancy induced elevated WBC is called Leukocytosis. It happens sometimes apparently.
I have had slightly elevated WBC since pregnant.
Thanks guys ;o)
