Success after IF

TTC #3: WWYD?-clicky

As background, we TTC about 3.5 years on our own before we went to the RE with no success at all--good BW for me, clear HSG, great SA.  When we started with RE, I had a lap to remove an endometrioma (no clue I had endo at all) and some other endo they found.  First cycle after lap, I got pg on a natural cycle, but it turned out to be ectopic which we were able to treat with drugs and not surgery.  Because of the risk of another ectopic, we went straight to IVF, okay response, transferred 2 on day 3 and both stuck. We also have two frozen on day 3 (when our clinic freezes).

  • I voted for try, FET, IVF but I guess it depends on your chances of concieving. Also, how much time are you willing to wait? I would try a few cycles (probably 3) and if nothing, then proceed with the FET.

  • I've been asking the same question and haven't come up with an answer yet.

For me a lot of my decision is based on my age (38).  I would love to have at least two more children but I only have one frozen embryo sooooo......if we do the FET first and I get pregnant I'd be 40 by the time we were ready to try again and then the rate of IVF success really goes down so I keep thinking it would be better to do an IVF now and then have the FET as sort of a back-up plan for sometime down the road since my age doesn't factor into the FET.  I also know that I am unlikely to get even one more frozen embryo from a fresh IVF.  If I thought I was going to get a lot more I wouldn't do the IVF because I am committed to using all of our embryos.  Then there's how long should we try on our own since my last pregnancy was a surprise so who knows, maybe it would happen again, although not too terribly likely.

It's just a lot to think about.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
