Im curious about this. I used an OBGYN and when we first met her i asked her very specifically if SHE would be delivering my baby. She said yes unless she was deathly ill or something. So I go along my 9 months thinking that she'll be in the room with me and when it comes down to it she WASNT. Turned out she wasnt on call that weekend so a midwife and dr I had never met delivered my baby. It ended up being fine but I was PISSED when we got there. Anyone else deal with this?

Re: Did your doc ACTUALLY deliver your baby?
the practice i go to has 4 doctors and 2 midwives. i was initially told that whoever is on call will deliver me even though i really wanted my midwife to. i ended up being induced because of gd so my midwife ended up doing it.
Nope. Had a c/s an hour after she left for the night, so the on call doc (from the same practice) cut me open.
I think total, I spoke to that doctor twice. Once when I met her and the day I went home.
My doc was on call the weekend I was in the hospital though, so I got to see her everyday, which was nice.
yes i saw a nurse practioner for 9 mths adn a midwife for about 2 weeks
i was ok with this thinking the midwife would be in and out and deliver the baby. well no the nurses had me push a few times to see how long id take then had me stop because he was right there and the midwife wasnt in yet....the midwife literally walked in adn had we push twice then finished up and left
i thought they were there more but i gues not this one
whoever was on call would be who delivered my baby. there were 9 docs at my practice and they tried to get me in with each doc at least once so that i had met each one of them. thankfully the doc that delivered my ds was the last one i saw in the office. she wasn't the one i saw the most but i did really like her.
they should have let you know from the beginning that whoever was on call would be who delivered your baby.
No, but I knew that would be a possibility. My OB practice is located in a hosital and all the doctors there are on call in L&D certain days. So who ever the on call doctor is that day is the delivering doctor. It is also a teaching hospital so I was sewn up by an intern.
I had no problems with it.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I ended up with an on-call Dr. who I had never met and he was a total a-hole. Think the Dr. from the movie 'Knocked Up'
I had been pushing for 2 hours with a really sweet nurse, then arrogant Dr. di-kface rolls in and starts acting like he had somewhere better to be. He came over to me and pushed down hard on my stomach which hurt so bad I lost my breath and then started crying in pain. He wasted no time and thought the baby wasn't going to come out anytime soon so he told me he had to vacuum her out. He kept pointing out to me and my whole family about how I wasn't pushing good enough. EXCUSE me!!! I've been up for 24 hours already, in labor for 11 hours and pushing for 2...STFU! He was in such a hurry that my epidural wasn't able to be turned back up all the way. He yanked on her head and pulled on her when I wasn't even contracting at one point. Even my husband yelled at him, "Stop, she's not even contracting!". I ended up tearing up and down thanks to him and since my epidural wasn't in full effect, I felt every part of those tears and the stitches that followed. I'm not even embellishing this...this really was a horrible event. It was so painful that instead of grabbing the bars on the side of the bed and pulling, I was pushing away, the nurse had to keep correcting me. I ended up missing her coming out because my eyes were closed, all of a sudden she was on my stomach.
A total nightmare delivery which thankfully ended with a healthy baby girl.
My OB delivered LO (it was almost the nurse but she arrived just in time)... but she is a one doctor practice so I knew that I might end up with another dr in her coop because she does take ocassional vacations and weekends off.
They were talking about inducing me a week earlier (High Blood Pressure) and my OB was on vacation so I waited a week for her opinion did not want to rush into it if not an emergency.
My OBGYN's office had 5 different doctors. You took turns seeing all of them while you were pg so you would know them if they were on call when you went into labor. I got lucky and got my favorite dr when J was born.
We were told up front that the doctor on call would be the one to deliver the baby. I was fine with that. And, no, it wasn't my doctor, it was another from that same practice.
What I did NOT know was that the doctor came in at the last minute. For almost 2 hours I had a nurse sitting in between my legs. All in all everything worked out.
OMG that's HORRIBLE!!!! I'm so sorry.
look at the birds | bless this food
When I had Harmon I was attending a practice w/2 doctors so both of them attended the c-section.
With the cupcakes my doctor performed the c-section along with his partner.
oh my god, that sounds horrible! I would have been sooo pi$$ed!!! I'm sorry you went through that!
there are 3 women in my practice and 1 male.
I'd seen 2 of the women through most of my pregnancy. The other female was new and came to the practice at the very end of my pregnancy and I'd seen her once.
Turns out, I go in and it's the male on call. Of course! I didn't see him my whole pregnancy.
Then the female who just entered the practice came on and did my c-section. I was kind of annoyed, I would have rather had one of the other 2, but I know how it all works, and she did a great job. I just would have been more comfortable with one of the other 2 women.
My dr almost didn't make it in. She had another patient two rooms over who was being rather difficult so I didn't get to see my dr much. The other patient was ready to start pushing but was refusing to push! seriously the baby has to come out it just can't stay in.
So they nurse had me start pushing thinking it would take a while since it was my first baby. 2 pushes in she starts yelling at me to stop because DD is about to come out. The dr and lady from the nursery run in and 5 minutes later dd was here.
Where I go they have 2 drs and 3 midwifes. They made sure I spent time with each one at all my checkups. I don't think they should give you the impression that they will be there cause it is unrealistic that they could be available all the time. I liked all 5 of my people so I didn't have to worry much about who was on call.

I had a c-section. One of the doctors from my practice and the surgeon at the hospital "delivered" him.
One of the things my practice made me do was schedule and appointment with every doctor at least once during my pregnancy so come time for delivery, there wouldn't be any surprises. It turns out we scheduled the c-section and it was with the doctor that I last met with.

No, but there are 5 Dr. at the office I go to and I figured it would be one of them. It ended up being a Dr. I had never met before because the Dr. that was on call from my office didn't feel like coming in.
I was okay with it because I actually really liked her as soon as I met her. I wasn't a fan of the Dr. that was on call that day either. The nurses also told me that if I would of had my Dr. or the one on call I would of been taken for a c-section (DS was vacuum extracted).
That said, I would be upset too if I was told I would have a certain Dr. and didn't.
We scheduled an induction a couple of days before my due date, partly because I wanted MY doctor to deliver me (other personal reasons as well).
Glad I did it.
Don't care what anyone thinks.
