2nd Trimester

Graco Sunugride-32, 35?

We have decided on the snugride but not sure which one-the regular, 32 or 35? Which one would be better? TIA!

Re: Graco Sunugride-32, 35?

  • We are going with the 32. With the 35, if I'm not mistaking, it goes up to 35 pounds and/or 32 inches. I've heard some people say their infant reaches the 32 inches before the 35 pounds. Also, I think the 32 is one pound lighter than the 35.

  • We went with the 35.  I am certain that he will grow out of it before he reaches 35 lbs, but we chose it because it was the pattern we liked.
  • They didn't have a choice when we got ours for DD, but if it's based on poundage I'm not sure the point the the bigger one...DD outgrew hers in the sense that I couldn't comfortably carry her in it and she wanted to be sitting more upright in a convertible long before she hit the weight limit.

  • I was going to do the Snugride 32 or 35 until I saw how long they are.  They are slightly over 30 inches long, and in the backseat of my car, I wasn't sure how well that would work with the front passenger seat, and since I am unable to go to a babies r us (or anywhere that carries the specific seat), I chose to go with the Chicco Keyfit 30, two pounds less than the Snugride 32, but the Keyfits are about 24 inches long, a full half foot shorter than the Snugrides I checked out.  If you have a smaller vehicle, make sure that the seat you pick will fit comfortably in your car!

If I were you, I would do the 32 or the 35, but the length of baby can only go to 32 inches on each one, so take that into consideration if there is a price difference (as far as I know there wasn't a huge price difference when I was checking them out).
    Good Luck!

That's interesting. I thought Baby Bargains said the Chicco's were heavier? I may have to go look this up because I fell in love with the Chicco's. They were a little more pricier than the Graco's which was another drawback for us.
  • i think the 35 has a higher safety rating then the 32.  i think.

  • I'm going with the regular b/c there is no way in hell I"m going to want to lift a 30lb baby + carseat and lug it around.

I was just reading Baby Bargains last night and I believe the Keyfit 30 is 9lbs and the Sungride 32 is 10lbs.  We are also going with the Keyfit 30, but we went back and forth between the 2 for a while.

I'm so sorry, I meant that the Chiccos's weight limit to carry an infant is two pounds less than the snugride 32!!!

The Chicco and Snugride 32 both weigh about 9lbs... I'm not sure how much the Snugride 35 weighs.  The Snugride 32 is 30.7 inches long, the 35 is 27.5 inches long and the Chicco Keyfit 30 is 24 inches long.  (these are for just the carriers!)

Also people have mentioned that their snugride 32 will not fit on top of shopping carts and high chairs in restaraunts as easily as a smaller carseat will.  They mentioned that people would stop them because their infant seat doesn't look right.

  • We got the Snugride 32 because it was the one that matched our stroller. I would have preferred the regular Snugride for the size but I'm fine with the 32.

  • Originally I was planning on going with the Snugride 35 b/c I am usually a bigger is better type of gal (I am from Texas afterall), but after talking to friends I've decided on the regular snugride.  Most people told me that their LO was much more comfortable in the convertible seat by about 6 months.  I also really don't see myself lugging around an infant carrier after the first few months anyways.  My SIL has a couple of extra bases for the regular snugride that she is giving to us, so that finalized my decision.  Now, I just need to decide on a pattern.  Most of them I find hideous!

Oh okay, now I understand. I still am torn with the Chiccos. I really love them and may switch. I haven't bought anything yet so there is still time.

We got this one at Sears, I figure it's fine for a girl or a boy:

There were a few I liked a bit better, but were around $150+ and I couldn't justify spending that for a pattern.

  • Is the height limit the same on each seat? Almost all babies will reach the height limit first. DD outgrew the snugride we had at 6 months. She was 29" and 18 1/2 lbs. The limits on the seat were 29" and 22 lbs. I saw the limit on the Snugride 35 in Target the other day, and I think it was 32". At 1 year, DD was 32 1/4" and only 22 1/2 lbs.

The real question is, are you going to carry DC around in the seat when they're even close to the weight limit? I'd say you're better off getting a convertible that will rear face to 35 lbs (and probably closer to 38-39") and get the cheaper infant seat with the lower weight limit.

FWIW, DD was able to stay rear facing in her Britax Marathon (convertible seat with weight limit 33 lbs) until 2 1/2 years. She was about 39" and 32 lbs. That's the point her head was less than 1" from the top of the shell. She's still using it now forward facing, although she's close to outgrowing it. She'll be 4 yrs at the end of May and is about 43".

I hope that helped a little. Sorry if I gave too much info.
