bumpies with nose rings, some help pls (nbr)

I've had my nose pierced for about 4 years now and have never had a problem. But lately it has become irritated- its a little itchy and sore, but not inflamed or oozing (yet). Anything I can do to clean it out? I have been told in the past that peroxide is bad for puncture wounds (which is what a nose piercing is) and not to use that...so what then?

TIA

  • With mine they always reccomend Bactine, so that is what I use everytime it seems a little sore....it also has a small numbing agent in it so it also relieves some of the soreness. GL hope it feels better soon.

  • I was always told to wash it really well with antibacterial soap, then dab on a non-irritating lotion. Whatever you do, avoid the rubbing alcohol. I did that once and I think I burned off all my nose hairs...ouch!
  • You can also make a solution using sea salt & water. Every piercing I have gotten they give me a little packet of sea salt to clean it with.
  • Sea salt in water. Most tattoo/piercing shops sell little cans of it that can be sort of sprayed directly onto the area. I was given a can/bottle when I got mine done and it was awesome. Wink

I'm  wondering if you're more sensitive to the metal then usual with the pregnancy??? what type of material is the ring? perhaps using a higher quality or different type of metal would help?

  • I was given sea salt and water to do a rinse twice a day when I originally got it pierced. That didn't do as much for me as regular antibacterial soap did. When I got my cartilage done they had me use saline solution (basically the same as the sea salt) and that worked better than the salt for me, but still not as well as the soap. For the soap I put it on a qtip, did the inside and outside, wait 5 mins and rinse it off.

My friend got hers done in Ireland and they told her to make a paste of crushed up Advil and water. (He was specific on the Advil for some reason). She said that worked miracles for her. I mentioned it to my guy and he said it's kind of harsh but it does work. He usually reccommends it as a last resort. She did it with her nose though and her nose healed so much faster than mine. (She was in Ireland and I was in the US and we both did it on the same day without even telling each other... I guess we are still best friends a million miles away!)

Sorry that got long, hope it feels better soon. Remember to try not to touch it when you're not cleaning it. That was the hardest part for me. GL!

  • The only thing you should ever use to clean or treat a piercing is warm water and sea salt.  I have both sides of my nose pierced and have had it upset before....it is a pain but mix up the solution and keep your nose dipped in it for 5 minutes.  You can look up online how much sea salt to warm water.  Do not use peroxide/bactine/neosporin ect.  If it stays upset go see a local piercer.
