2nd Trimester

Anyone see the birth on keeping up with the kardashians?

Kourtney Kardashian gave birth to her child, and she was SO calm and relaxed. She was like propped up on her elbows watching the baby come out. No crying, screaming, moaning, panting.... not even any real pushing that I can remember. Then she actually helped pull the baby out of her and right then and there have it in her arms.

Now I almost wonder if it was staged... like if they re-enacted the birth right afterwards or something. Ok, I know that is HIGHLY unlikely. I don't want to start rumors. I was just amazed at how pleasant it seemed.

All I'm going to say is- I'll take what she had. Miracle epidural?

  • Really?!? I missed that.. Maybe it'll be on youtube or something. That's exactly how I want to give birth and my midwife said she'll support me with my decision. I've seen it before in birth videos, looks awesome! :o)

  • Hi! I'm usually a lurker and found my way over here, and I will tell you that it pretty much went like that for me. Now I know not everyone has that pleasant of an experience, but for me it was so calm. My Dr. and my husband were actually talking about golf and we were all joking in between contractions while I was waiting to push. The worst part for me was by far the contractions before the epi. I was pretty nervous about the whole birthing experience before hand, but it was not bad at all. I even had a 2nd degree tear and didn't feel a thing when he came out. I will say though, I demanded lots of meds throughout the day! Wow, sorry this got long. Good luck to you! :)
  • It is possible even without the epi.  You have way more control over the pushing if you can feel your LO coming out.
  • I've watched that episode twice. I found it amazig as well. I can't believe she wasn't even frantic after her water broke. She even took a shower and put on makeup before going to the hospital. I hope I'm that calm, but I know I'll be a wreck.

    This varies...not always the case

I had an epi for both of mine and but could feel the contractions, could push as much or as little as needed and still 'felt' my baby come out. It depends on how much meds they give you when you get your epi...it is a catheter so they can cut it back or up it as you need it and they normally cut it back enough so you can still feel enough of what is going on to push and be involved but not SO much that you feel as if a watermelon is coming out your hoo ha. My babies were 8.9 and 8.10, not small and both times I was able to push them out within 7-10 pushes...some tearing but little pain.

Of course not everyone has my experience, but I'm 2 for 2 for a great epi experience and still just as magical and special. I was far from from 'numb' to the whole process!

  • Um...how does one reenact a birth? It's not like she could have put the baby back inside her. She clearly pulled it out of her vag.

  • That's how mine was after I got the epi.  Prior to getting the epi, I had horrible back labor for about 11 hours but it was smooth sailiing after the epi.

  • Once I had my epi, that's how it was for me. Even in the middle of horrible painful contractions (pre-epi) I didn't scream or anything. It was just painful.

During labor, I was very calm and quiet. And I wanted everyone around me to be calm.

I've already informed my husband to just hold my hand and stand there. Dont' talk to me. lol

  • I saw this too and was amazed how calm she was! I hope i'm that calm. It was cool how she reached down and pulled the baby out. I was like wow! I would be scared i would hurt something! LOL

  • I was calm and quiet for both of my deliveries pre and post epi. I have a tendancy of getting quiet when I'm in a lot of pain anyway, and I didn't want to embarrass myself.

In addition, I think my sister did enough freaking out for the both of us when I went into labor. That gave me the push I needed to stay calm.

  • I was very calm during labor delivery...I think it is a misconception that there is screaming, panting, blah blah blah.  I had an epi though.  I think if I didn't have an epi there would have been all of the above.  It is not as scary as everyone makes it seem Wink
  • I did a homebirth with a midwife without any medications.  The movie scenes are very misleading.  The labor leading up to the birth was intense, but nothing that caused any screaming or even harsh words to my husband.  We labored through it together and when it was time to push, it was the best feeling ever!  It's like my body knew what it wanted to do.  Once I was fully dialated and pushing, I did not have any pain at all.  Not to say it wasn't a lot of work - but nothing I would call pain.  I had a small tear but didn't even know it until the midwife told me.
  • I didn't pull my child out of me, but my epi was very effective Big Smile.  I didn't feel anything but pressure so with my son, I actually only pushed for about 20 minutes and there he was.  People had to hold my legs because I couldn't feel anything from the waist down, I'm hoping for the same thing the second time around!

I was kidding... I was just amazed and perplexed that she was SO calm, I haven't seen MANY births but the ones I have were so different from her's. I will be hoping for an experience like that it seemed amazing.
