Baby Showers

Shower- order of events

Hi ladies-

The hostesses of my shower have asked for my input on the order of events so I wanted your opinions.

We are having a brunch buffet, 2 games, and presents. Here is what I am thinking:

- Welcome everyone

- Everyone goes to buffet and eats

- Play Game #1

- Serve cake

- Play Game #2

- Open Presents

Does this sound ok?

Re: Shower- order of events

  • Yes, that sounds about right. Leave time for people to mingle when they arrive though.

  • Another option would be:

    1) Welcome Everyone

    2) Play Game #1 (ice breaker?)

    3) Buffet

    4) Play Game #2

    5) Serve Cake

    6) Open Presents

    7) Thank Everyone

  • Looks good -- I like the idea of serving cake during present opening though. It gives people something to do so it doesn't get boring for them, and Mom may appreciate not having all eyes on her (if she is anything like me, that is)

This.  Or take a break in the middle of presents to serve cake.

  • Now that my shower is over I wish they had estimated time for each thing. In my case I think it would have made things a lot easier. I wasn't able to open presents b/c we ran out of time. And there were games that we didn't play b/c we ran out of time. So set a time frame for each as a guideline so nothing gets left out might be good

  • Thanks ladies- I like the alternate order suggested!

This, and one other "version" is to do the cake part way through the gift opening.  Probably depending on how many gifts.  But stopping mid-way through, serving cake, give the mom about a 10 min "break", then resuming also works too.

To MCC's comment about timing - as the hostess, you need to keep things moving!   if you let one thing take too long, the gift opening either gets rushed OR the party just goes on too long.

I like this one.  Have a game/icebreaker you can play while people are mingling and still arriving.

And you should open presents while the cake is served

  • I think the shower wouldn't seem so long if you put the games one after another. Everyone is already in game mood so it just makes sense to go right into the second game. This is how I would do it:

Eat-momtobe gets first plate of food and when you are finished eating, start opening presents while others finish eating.

Presents - b/c some people may not have time to stick around till the end of the shower to see their gift opened.

    Game #1 and #2

    Cake

We don't really do games where I'm from. Probably cause we always have a high # of guests so we keep it as short as possible. It is usually a come-and-go sort of shower.

  • At my daughters (and most showers I've attended) they have been in this order:

    -Mingle (10 minutes)

    -Games

    -Food

    -Cake

    -Open Presents
