How much tummy time?

How much tummy time does your LO get? especially if they aren't a big fan of tummy time.

I try and get at least 30 minutes a day of tummy time for Natalie but I rarely ever reach that I think. I know she needs it but i feel bad since she hates tummy time so much.

  • Wow 30 minutes? I get maybe 10-15. Maybe that's why she's not rolling over a lot yet?

  • Honestly, most days he goes w/o :( I have to be better about putting him on his tummy, even if he hates it.

  • your suppose to do 30 mins a day but i barely do 10 (sometimes i forget to do it at all).. it's hard b/c my LO is always eating and i dont want to do TT right after he feeds.

he doesnt mind it but sometimes he moans to get him up

  • Lilly probably gets an hour, I'd say....but she doesn't hate tummy time...she usually will be fine with it for about 15 minutes and then she wants you to roll her over or put her in her bebepod or jumperoo.

  • My LO sleeps on his tummy and we've just started putting him on his belly on a blanket with his toys a LOT over the last week.  When he gets tired of being on the belly we flip him over to his back and give him toys to play with.  Then we do TT again...

  • I try but LO has learned to roll from tummy to back very well, and I can't keep him on his tummy for longer than about 20 seconds! lol

  • DS doesn't get much tummy time, mostly because every time I try to put him on the floor DD is there showing me how well she can lie on her tummy and nearly rolling on him :) He definitely needs more; we're still working on it.

Honestly, I don't get anywhere close to 30 minutes most days. 10-15 a day is about the norm for us too. Natalie also isn't rolling tummy to back yet.

  • Whenever I think about it (and she's paying on the floor) I roll her over until she gets upset. Then back again to play, then on the belly again. I never time it, but I highly doubt she gets 30 mins/ day. FWIW, she's rolled once, but her pudge gets in the way. It really looks like she would be rolling if she had a little less weight to throw around.

DS too LOL Hes already 17 lbs and would prob be rolling if there wasnt so much weight to throw to one side :)

  • If you are up to 30 minutes of Tummy Time per day, that is awesome!  The recommendation is up to an hour per day, in several increments.  It is so important because of the time babies spend on their backs sleeping and in ?containers? like car seats, strollers and bouncers.  Once she begins to sit unassisted, encourage her to play in this position because her balance and coordination will increase.  For resources on TT, check out this site from Pathways Awareness: https://bit.ly/8IhuuF.
