TTC After a Loss

for those that have multiple pets

do you scold them when one is mean to another one?  do you make them make up?

i think i am totally crazy for doing this.  Banana is kinda mean to the other dogs.  funny thing is she is extra mean to Tyson, our 40lb boxer mix, and she is a 7lb chi.  when she starts chasing him and snapping at him he runs away from her and won't look her in the eye.  LOL.  it's quite funny.

i always scold Banana for being "the mean old lady" and sometimes make her sit in time out until she can be nice.  then i find myself talking to her and trying to rationalize with her.  she's a dog. Indifferent

is that the makings of a good mom or a bad mom?

Re: for those that have multiple pets

  • Nope. They've established their pecking order and really, my two don't fight anyway but when Biscuit is bugging the crap out of Fletcher, I let him deal with it. And he does.

  • HAHAHA...I think it's the makings of a great mom!
  • I do it too, especially when Sadie (our 95lb. German Shepherd) is mean to Shelby (Our 40lb lab pitt mix).  My husband tries to rationalize with them too.  Your not the only one. I think it means that you'll be a GREAT mom!
  • That's the makings of a good mom.  I always scold Toby (cat) when he's mean to Pepper (dog).  The cat seriously rules at our house.  If it makes you feel better I always try to rationalize with the pets, it works fairly well with Pepper, the others...not so much.

  • We don't have multiple pets but Zoey and I always have a serious discussion before her playdates about what is and isn't appropriate behavior.... then when inevitably misbehaves she get's a time out while I tell her she needs to 'check yourself.'

Terribly ineffective but I think it has much more to do with my giggling throughout the lecture than anything else.

i know what you are saying is logical and it makes sense.

i think it's heightened cuz we have sooooo many pets.  i just hate when Ty is being sweet and playful and out of the blue Banana comes flying out after him and is mean to him.  he's not even talking to her and she snaps.  lol...i'm doing it again aren't i?

  • We let ours pick on each other.  We have two pit bulls so they loooove to wrestle and "bitey face" is their favorite game.  Farrior (our female) is more dominant and antagonizes Ben (our male) sometimes but he always gives it right back to her.

The only time one gets scolded and the other doesn't is if we know which one did something they shouldn't have.  Ben is crated, Farrior is not, so when a dog tears up trash, we know who the culprit is (plus, she'll slink away as soon as we walk in the door if she's done something bad).

  • My mom has a bassethound and a really evil cat.  When the cat bates the dog my mom always tells the dog "to be the bigger better person."  It always makes me laugh.

Yup I scold the 2 kitties when they go at it , I usually yell at them to knock it off.. and they do...Moe ( the male) tends to be the agressor but Bella baits him too by swiping at him as he goes by her...

yeah i do this by yelling, "HEY" really loudly when their playfullness gets out of hand.  they all freeze and look at me, it's funny.

I do this too!! I have 3 male dogs (2 pugs and a pug/boston mix). And we always call Cubbie (the oldest pug) a "grumpy old man" 1.) because he is grumpy and 2.) because he looks like an old man with his wrinkly face!

  • Ha! My dog will sometimes chase my cat, even though if my cat wanted to she could so whoop my dog's butt. I talk to my dog telling her that one day she's going to "get it" and I'm not going to feel sorry for her. At least I'm not the only pet owner who's a bit on the crazy side.

Oh, and I think its the making of being an excellent mom. Wink

  • I only do it if it gets out of control or I think someone may get hurt.  My two boy cats can really be loud and obnoxious at times.

  • If they are just play fighting, we let it go. But we have a very dominant female cat, and 2 tiny tiny girls that love to annoy her. Usually she will just growl or swat at them, but once in a while she will corner them and really go at them, and we do fuss at her then and scoop up the little ones.
  • LOL, I do the same thing with my animals, however it's my cat who is 10lbs that goes after my 52lb dog.............it's quite amusing!
  • I just let my cats go at it. I find it amusing.

Does that make me a horrible person?

  • Our two young male cats will sometimes try to "play" with my old lady kitty by chasing her around, which she really doesn't like. So, they get squirted with the water bottle when I'm right there to catch them in the act.

  • I think it's really funny that you posted this because when I got home my DH was holding Moose (our 15 pound pomeranian/cairn terrier mix) because Gus (chow/lab mix) was "starting an argument with him." ?Usually he favors Gus because he's a bigger, "manly" dog, so I thought it was pretty funny to see him yelling at him for picking on the little guy. :)
