Prevacid users...

We're just switching DS from Zantac to Prevacid.  We tried giving him the first dose this morning and it didn't go that wall.  The pedi said we should just buy the over the counter capsules, break them open, mix the beads with a little water or BM and then give it to him using an oral syringe or medicine dropper.  We tried the syringe and that didn't work, the beads got all caught up in there and only the milk came out.  Then I tried the medicine dropper and it worked a little better, but DS hated it and screamed the whole time.

Any tips or suggestions?  How do you go about giving your LO Prevacid??

thanks in advance!

Re: Prevacid users...

  • We get ours made in oral suspension from the pharmacy.  So, ours comes in liquid form.  We mix it in 30 mls of BM, but he still hates it.  It tastes salty, and they really really like sweet right now.  Salty is like the last thing they want to taste.  We just push our way through even tho he hates it.  Sometimes I have to get the syringe and just put it in the side of his mouth.  I would talk to your pedi about it if it's really not working.

  • We cut the tablet in half and wet it a little with a syringe, almost to the point where it falls apart and then put it in LO's mouth with a little squirt of water from the syringe. It works well. Obviously just be sure to see that it dissolves 100% in their mouth.
  • We do the solutabs...those are great for dissolving in water/BM. She gets half in the morning and half in the evening. They are much better than the capsules. I just shake it in a little plastic container and use a medicine dropper to give it to her...works great.....good luck!
