Babies: 9 - 12 Months

My dd does not enjoy solids at all

She makes a horrible face after EVERY bite then immediately sticks her favorite 2 fingers into her mouth and sucks on them.  So far she has had sweet potatoes, squash, green beans and bananas and she just does not seem to like any of them.  I thought for sure she would love the bananas but she seemed to dislike them the most!

She is fascinated with the spoon and grabs it from me with every bite but she seems to just not like the food on it. Even though she will eat ,she makes a face like it is the worst thing in the world.  Anyone's LO do this too?

  • My son hates it all.  I have heard it can take up to 2 months for them to adjust.  You just need to keep a routine and they will learn.

  • My son will only eat his oatmel, but the past week he refused to take any solids.  He is also teething, not sure if that is part of the problem or not.  We are trying very hard to keep him on a schedule but its difficult with his health issues.  GL!

  • My DS did not start enjoying solids till just this week. Give it time, have you tried making anything? My LO likes the homemade food better then store bought.

  • If you want to wait until your kiddo turns 6 months, you might find you like Baby Led Weaning better.  It allows LO to set her own pace with solids, and we've had really good success with it!  If you do decide to go that route, I recommend you check out the book, which is by Gill Rapley.

At any rate, don't stress about solids.  Let your DD decide what/how much to eat for now.  In the early months, solids are more for practice than anything else, as BM or formula should be supplying just about all the nutrition the baby needs.  Just don't cut back on milk feeds yet, and feed solids after your baby has had a milk/formula meal.
