I just painted our nursery this weekend by myself. I opened the window and door, had a fan for ventilation and went at it. They have low VOC paint you can buy if you are worried but I didn't get one. I just rested when I needed to and would have stopped if I smelled the fumes and or they got to me. But I did fine...though now my mom keeps muttering "I hope your baby doesn't have asthma" :-)
My ob was fine with regular water based interior paint. I painted a little bit during my 1st tri. I've known plenty of pg women that painted too. But do what you feel comfortable with and of course ask the doctor.
I had the same freaked out people around me,LOL! I painted like 4 of the 5 rooms that we painted before we moved into our new house. I just got a mask, the good one with the ventilator thing, it was cheap but hot... but at least they all left me alone to paint in peace I LOVE to paint!
When we repainted our new house I bought the Harmony paint from Sherwin Williams just so the family wouldn't give me guff over it. Just don't inhale a lot of fumes and you're fine.
I did. I used Valspar brand which is low fumes. I made sure the room was very well ventilated and I wore a mask through most of it. (I would get a tad over heated and the mask would go but with the window open you couldn't smell any paint anyways)

I think it's fine, as long as you get a low fume kind. And as long as you feel comfortable doing it. Before getting KU, I was very scared of the thought of painting while pregnant. So I picked out a gender-neutral color and painted our nursery before we got our BFP.
I think it's similar to what my doctor said about going to the nail salon for a manicure or pedicure. If the fumes bother you or make you sick don't do it. Otherwise you should be just fine!
Re: Stupid ? - Can I Paint While PG??
Our no VOC paint by Olympic (from Lowes) worked really well!
