2nd Trimester

Due Date Question

I went for my monthly growth ultrasound yesterday and LO is measuring 3 days ahead of our original due date (June 9 instead of June 12).  Does the doctor ever oficially changea due date?  Does it have to be a certain number of days before they will?  Sorry if what I am asking doesn't make sense.

My doctor only changes your due date if the baby measures more than 7 days ahead or behind your due date for two consecutive ultrasounds.

  • My LO was measuring 1 day diffrent then my due date and they said they were so close that they wouldnt change my due date... I assume if it's a considerable amount of time that they would though.

  • Mine "changed" mine 3 days based on my 12 week u/s.  I didn't remember to ask where LO was at the 18 week one.  I'm sticking with the original.  It doesn't really matter, especially 3 days.

This. In the grand scheme of things 3 days makes no difference.

  • My ultrasounds have measured a few days off, too, so I asked my doctor the same question. She that in her practice they only change the due date if the baby measures more than 7 days off from the LMP (assuming that you know it). Since growth isn't always perfectly constant, the LMP tends to be a better indicator of a due date than an ultrasound measurement (if its not way off). Hope that helps!
  • My Dr said they would only change the EDD if the difference is 10 days or more - I just made that cut after my first ultrasound and my due date was moved from May 27th to June 7th
  • I measured about eight days ahead of my original due date and the doctor said that we would still keep the same date.
  • EDD doesn't mean that much in the long run unless you go overdue, and then they consider a lot of factors/all the measurements.  My OB dates on an early (6-7 week) US, and won't change it unless you're off by over 3 weeks.  Growth spurts happen in utero, so at later US's it's very hard to date a pg since size can change quickly when that happens.

  • My doctor changed mine in the beginning when I was only 10 weeks along because my periods were not consistant so the ultrasound was more accurate.  After the first trimester though they don't change it unless there is more than a weeks difference.
  • At my last u/s I was measuring 2 days ahead.  No change in due date. I just say I'm due mid-August
  • At this far along, they shouldn't change your date, especially for only 3 days. Babies start growing at different rates.

My dr. only changes in the 1st tri and only if it's by more than 7 days.
