2nd Trimester

compression socks

Hi all,  I'm flying next week at 29 weeks pregnant and the only thing my doc has suggested (besides moving around a lot on the plane) is to wear "compression stockings."  I thought they'd be an easy find- though searching on the internet I'm finding that this task is tricky, and looking like quite an expense.  Can anyone recommend some and/or where they purchased them? Thanks so much!

Re: compression socks

  • I've seen them at big box stores and pharmacies with the Dr. Schols type products.

  • Go to the pharmacy.  They're by the old people stuff :)  But seriously, they have them at walgreens/rite aid.

  • Google TED hose.  That's the name brand (also Kendall).

  • FYI (from someone who wears them daily for vericose veins) put the stockings on a little bit at a time. First pull the legs through so they are inside out.  Then work them on starting with the toes of both feet, pulling on about 5 inches at a time.  Keep going until you reach the top. If you try to put them on like regular hose, they will roll/bunch up and cut off circulation.  My first few times the hose took 10-20 minutes to work on.  Now I can do it in about 5.  Good luck!  They do help with the circulation.

**My compression hose were prescribed by my dr. but you can find them in the medical supply stores.  They are much more expensive than regular hose though.
