3rd Trimester

Big boobs and nursing bras

So I went to destination maternity today and got a couple of nursing bras. I am not at all excited about them...not that I was expecting to get excited about bras. They suggested no underwire which I understand but my girls aren't the perkiest. I had to get a size E....E!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF? There is a little space to grow and the bras stretch but seriously. They weren't cheap either. Where did you get your bras? I want something good but I'm just so frustrated.

Re: Big boobs and nursing bras

  • I just got one from Motherhood this weekend it was $22.  I went in for a normal bra because I still have 11 weeks to go but ended up with a nursing bra with an underwire because it was the only thing that I had found in the entire town that fit. I got a 40F but I will have to sew in an extra hook or two because it is a little loose around the band. But I was desperate and it was cheap.

  • Lucky you!  I'm a G!!!  I got mine online at a site in the UK.  The bras cost about the same as the ones I've found here (I had to buy some at a specialty store) but are much sexier and comfortable.

FYI - the pound is about 1.5 to the dollar.  Hope this helps and happy shopping!

  • First off it is not suggested to buy nursing bras until you are at least within a month of your due date if not later. At my breast feeding class the lactation consultant told me to honestly wait till my milk comes in for more "fitted" nursing bras. I did buy a nursing tank and sleeping nursing bra (like a sports bra) since they are super stretchy they will be fine. I am already in LOVE with the sleeping one. It ist his one https://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=56812&CatID=56812&Grptyp=PRD&ItemId=161a3c6&cm_mmc=ShoppingFeed-_-Google-_-Large,%20Medium,%20Small,%20Extra%20Large-_-Women%20s%20Maternity%20Medela%20Comfort%20Nursing%20Bra%20%20Black%20White and awesome! I am a DD and it actually has quite a bit of support (not talking like a regular bra) but enough to feel comfortable!

  • Bravado Designs!  https://www.bravadodesigns.com/ I SOOOO recommend them!  Someone on here recommended them to me when I was stressing about the size of my chest and the inability to find a bra that gave me support. I've grown out of my size E bras and my milk hasn't even come in yet....

Anyway- they only sell online, but you can call them and they will walk you through ordering the right size (even through measuring)...SUPER helpful...and you can return them within 45 days- so if they don't fit or you don't like them you won't be out anything.  I was able to find a 20% off online coupon: CSR-155

I'm not sure if that code works anymore or if it has expired, but it's worth a shot!

Bravado :)  It's like the Victoria's Secret of Maternity Bras!

(No they aren't paying me for advertisement..haha...)

Looks comfy! I started at a DD too. I am due at the end of the month but will most likely be induced early in a few weeks so I thought I'd go ahead and get some.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I'll check them all out :)
  • I used to be a 36D pre-preg., a 38DD while I was preg. and I'm now a 34H while EBFing. I bought the 34H bra after I gave birth.  Remember your rib cage gets smaller after you give birth.
  • There is absolutely no way I could do anything underwire at this point.  Waaaaaay too uncomfortable!!!  The sales ladies at our local Motherhood Maternity store are nice, but they haven't been very helpful with other things and I don't trust them at all to correctly fit me for a bra.

I went to a local lady who is a lactation consultant and has a little shop where she sells nursing bras and breastfeeding things.  She measured me (38DD) and gave me about 7 styles to try on.  Of everything, these are BY FAR the most comfortable.  There are several hooks on the back so you can adjust them inward once your ribcage goes down a bit after the baby is born.  As far as your breasts changing, she told me that typically they just become "fuller" when your milk comes in and don't really continue to go up in sizes. I got mine at 36 weeks.

There are also similar styles in nursing tanks made by the same company.  They're a bit pricey, but she said it was her most popular brand and all her clients have been very happy with them.   I think they're super comfy and plan to breastfeed for awhile, so I felt comfortable spending the money.  I figured if I hated the ones from MM and had to buy others, I'd end up spending that much in the long run.

     Hope this helps!

  • That is odd - I went to destination maternity and they told me they only carry up to a DD. They said I had to go elsewhere for bras. I actually found some nursing bra's at Target in a size E. I was stoked because it is so hard to find E sized bras. I was going to wait but I could no longer fit into any of the ones I had.

When I tried them on I cried because my boobs looked like they were in a straight jacket.

  • I just went to Motherhood yesterday and the lady there fitted me with a nursing bra. She said to always make sure that you can fit 4 fingers in your cups because you might need a little extra room when your milk comes in. The bras i bought were totally comfy and im excited about using them. The only down fall is that at Motherhood they don't have the cutest bras but seriously i couldn't care less. The ones i got were 18-22 dollars.

  • I got 2 bras at Motherhood this weekend.  One is the lace nursing bra (no underwire either and I'm a D) and the other was a sleep bra.  FWIW, with that brand, an E cup is the DD :)  They weren't horribly expensive.  I spent less that $45 for both.
