2nd Trimester

Anterior placenta

I found out last week baby has an anterior placenta (after dr. couldn't pick up hb with the doppler and I had a mini panic attack).  Anyone else?  I'm wondering how difficult it will be to determine gender at my 20 week u/s.  Dr. couldn't even get a view last week b/c the placenta was totally blocking between the legs.

Re: Anterior placenta

  • I have an anterior placenta and had no problem determining gender at 20 weeks.

  • Mine is anterior too and we've heard him since we first tried around 9 weeks. Gender was easy, too. I'm pretty sure I can feel him boxing in there, but I guess time will tell if I'm right or not.

  • I have it too.  No problem with determining gender and it didn't get in the way at all (I laid on my side).

  • I have AP and the u/s tech had no problem seeing the gender and getting all the shots he needed.
  • I have AP and they told me I was having a boy at 13.5 weeks and then confimed it at 19 weeks.  The only issue I have had because of AP was not feeling much movement.  I was about 21 weeks until I felt definitive movement and now at 24 weeks, he shifted and it feels muted.  The doc said it shouldn't affect the baby or childbirth.
  • I have anterior placenta too and it was no prob to see the sex. I also asked the tech if this made it more difficult and she said they can see right through it.
