ammonia smelling urine

in 2nd Trimester

The title is self explanatory to my question. Also what does aminotic fluid smell like? I really don't want to call my doctor b/c they'll just send me to l&d. I have a cerclage so everytime I have a question I get sent to be checked. I don't want to ignore the "problem" & something be wrong either.

    with pee smelling like that you could have a UTI or need to drink more water. And aminotic fluid smells sweet.

    Yep, I agree with PP. The few times I have had a UTI, my pee smells like that. Not sure what you can take for that, but my OB said she could give me a pill after 1st tri, and it shouldn't bother the baby. GL!

    If it's a UTI you need antibiotics to make it go away. It can get VERY bad if you don't.

    Besides the smell how do I know it's an UTI? I've never had one before.

    sometimes it will burn or sting when you pee. Or you will feel like you have to go, like having pressure, and not really have to go.

    UTIs can get very, very painful if you don't treat it. If it is one, blood might end up in your urine.. just a warning so don't freak if you see it.

    Did you eat asparagus? That makes my (and many peoples) pee smell like ammonia.

    (i know i'm not quite, 2nd tri, but getting ready and lurking a little :-)  )

    Your OB can check your urine for any signs if infection. Sometimes signs, like burning, having the urge to go and going only a little, not being able to go won't show up. For me, it hit so incredibly hard. I just had pain spreading from my lower right side to my lower right back. I had a full blown infection that spread to my kindeys. Hello 3 day stay in the hospital. Definitely have things checked out. Amnio is a very sweet smell like PP's said.
