Help! DS is pee'ing through his overnight diapers

What can I do now??? We're using the Huggies overnights--which I've always loved.....and he's in a size 6 already (their largest).  The last two nights he's woken up and his crib was all wet --I have no clue how he could be going through them.  I haven't noticed that he's any larger in terms of his diaper size.

Having to change his pj's and sheets in the middle of the night SUCKS.

any ideas?????

FWIW==he sleeps on his belly or side most of the night.  He gets a fresh diaper right before bed --but he does drink a bottle as well.

  • Ugh. :( My only suggestion is that BRU sells something that I think are called diaper doublers. I haven't bought them myself; just remember seeing them. I think they're inserts that you use to add absorbency. Probably worth looking into!

  • Try another brand?

  • Cut off the liquid an hour before bed.

  • Hmm...Do you know where specifically he's leaking through (i.e. top, sides, etc.)?

That's not possible--he goes to bed with a bottle (yes, BAD habit)

  • Double up.....MIL did this with 2 regular diapers when we forget to give her an over night. remove the outside 'shell' of the diaper.... and put another one over top!

  • I have no advice.  We have the same problem.  Huggies Overnights work best, but not every night.  Every other diaper I tried overnight was awful.  And we cut off liquids an hour before.  We tried diaper doublers but they didn't help.  My son sleeps on his belly, too, and I seriously think he pees right out the top of the diaper during the night.  Pointing it down doesn't work, either, in case someone was going to suggest that.  I hope someone has a new idea - I need it!
  • I also wonder if the overnight version of pull-ups would work?

Not sure.  Honestly, I don't always even see where he's wet on his pjs--but it definitely smells like urine in the crib and is wet.  this sucks.

This.  DS was leaking through (size six) and I started giving him his milk a couple of hours before bed instead of right before and problem solved.

This - we stopped giving Michael anything to drink after 7pm, and he goes to bed between 8 and 8:30. He gets a new diaper right before bed, and we've had no problems since.

  • DS pees through all disposable diapers so our solution has been BubuBebe CDs with a hemp liner and a wool cover.  Impossible to get any leaking!!
  • We have this same issue. I used to get diaper doublers for DS#1, but I can't find them in stores anymore. A poster was kind enough to direct me to a website that sells them (which of course I now can't find), but in the meantime, I bought these and they work every bit as well. I still use the overnight diapers, but I stick a pad in first and we've had much less of an issue with soaking wet jammies in the morning.
  • Okay this might sound strange but is it cooler in DS's room? I'm found that when it's cooler he pees more. I promise I'm not making this up, my neighbor actually brought this up to me.
  • These are size 7 Huggies, my neighbor uses them, she says they work great.

  • Also if you order them from diapers.com and it is your first order put sandy02 as your promo code and you'll get $10 off!  :0)

  • We do Cruisers during the day and Luvs one size up at night. We have not had a problem since!

DS also has a nighttime bottle, and it's not a habit we're breaking anytime soon.  He's in size 6 Huggies Overnights as well.  Since he's a stomach sleeper, his #1 area to leak is the top and sides.  He never leaks out the back, so I just make sure that the front of his diaper is pulled up high.  Also, if I need to use Aquaphor for any diaper rash, I make sure it's only on the necessary area(s).

  • I second pp's suggestion to try cloth for overnight - you can adjust how absorbent they are by putting in extra layers. If you want to still use a disposable, you could put a washable cover over top. We use Stacinator So Simple diaper covers overnight and they hold everything in!
  • I'd buy pampers just for bedtime--they're the ONLY diapers DS won't leak through, even during the day (huggies are a nightmare). I have a friend who's DS always wore huggies, but he'd recently started peeing though them at night also, so he wears huggies during the day, and pampers baby dry at night (pampers cruisers aren't as good)

  • I have the same issue.  DS is in cruisers size 7 during the day and the huggies overnights size 6 weren't cutting it for overnight.  I know put him in the cruisers at night with the GoodNights over the cruisers and it has been working.  The GoodNights (that a poster above linked to) seem to work great but are WAY bigger than the size 6 (or even size 7) diapers.  I can't use them alone as he'd definitely leak right out of the sides of them, but over the cruisers they work great.  There are pullups that are size 2T or something that fit fine but don't work as well.
  • Maybe buy a few cloth diapers that you can double stuff? I never have leaks.

Or you can buy a cloth diaper cover that you can put over his disposable diaper to keep the leaks in. They are $13 and you can wipe them out and use them a few times before washing them.
