2nd Trimester

NBR: Most depressing movie ever.....

is Revolutionary Road. Anyone seen it. Jeez. I thought with Kate and Leo it would be good. Not a good movie to watch when you're pregnant. I won't say much for those who don't watch it.

But, I was not surprised at the end to see it was directed by Sam Mendes, the same guy who did American Beauty. This movie was like American Beauty set in the 50's. And Kate is married to him. I hope he's a happier individual in life than he shows based on the movies he directs!

DH and I used to have couple friends (meaning husband/wife) who often argued/seemed unhappy in front of us. This movie made them look like the happiest couple ever!

  • I heard it was pretty sad. I still want to steal your Gamecock baby sig.

  • AML - can you get it or do I need to send you the link or something? A fellow bumpie made it for me. She was making all kinds of them for any team anyone asked for back in football season.

More about the movie - I wanted to add that it drove me crazy all the drinking and smoking they did when pregnant back then!

  • It is depressing. I really did not like it.

  • I can just right click and save! Thanks! We're huge Gamecock fans, too! We're GC club members and have season tickets, so I told DH the baby should be here just in time for the first home game. You know I wouldn't really take him/her that early, but it's funny to think about, lol.

  • Agreed - incredibly depressing. I thought it was a great movie in that the acting, directing, sets, costumes, etc. were incredible but the story is just so dark. I have to say, though, I'd watch it again.

Agreed. Although I don't have to see it again.

  • Agreed, I was disappointed. Kate Winslet is one of my favorite actors, but I still wouldn't want to see it again. Too depressing!
  • yeah, saw that in theatre when I was engaged. Seriously depressing.

  • I thought it was a great movie, but not something I'd want to watch while pregnant. I read the book after I saw it, and thought it was really good too.
  • Try watching House of Sand and Fog or My Sister's Keeper.  I didn't even watch the first while pregnant and I bawled at 3am and made hubby wake up and hold me.  RIDICULOUS.
  • I knew you were going to say this movie before I even clicked. So sad!
  • You wanna see a REALLY depressing/disturbing Kate Winslet movie?

    Little Children.

    Don't say I didn't warn you.

I've thought about renting it several times. I love depressing movies. They're my fave!

Now I most definitely have to watch it.

Yes Little Children was depressing, but I have to say Rev Road was more depressing (while your pregnant) I watched it when I wasn't pregnant and I was sad. Weird cause in both movies she cheats on her husbands!

  • I tried reading the book about a year ago and couldn't make it through the first half. I rarely start a book and then leave it but that one was too depressing...and boring!!
  • I agree with those who said it was a great movie (acting etc etc...they story is a good story as well) however, it is horribly depressing and something I would have rather not watched.  I saw Revolutionary Road when I wasn't pregnant same for Little Children, and I would still say Revolutionary Road is far more depressing. Both  are movies I hope I never have to watch again.

  • Sam Mendes is Kate's husband. The movie is great, the acting is great but it is depressing. I think the book was slightly more depressing but good. In Little Children, both the book and movie, I was just annoyed by the adults.
  • It's definitely a rough movie to watch. Thank God I saw it before I was PG.
  • I saw it a long time ago and stupidly, I thought it was going to be a romance! I think I was blinded by the Kate/Leo combo. It is extremely depressing!
  • I agree with the PP's about the acting, costuming, etc being fantastic in the film, but it was definitely depressing. I went to see it with two of my friends - both were pregnant at the time - and I felt horrible afterwards so I can only imagine how they felt. Its definitely a great movie to see once only to appreciate it as a film, but I will never watch it again.
