Do you have a fireplace?

Our new home will have a fireplace with a brick surround.  I want to get something to put around it....the brick scares me.  I've seen the foam bumpers from Prince Lionheart (I think that's the brand), but they didn't get the best reviews.  What do you use to babyproof yours?

    we have the foam ones.  He suprisingly has never fallen near the fireplace.  he does however crawl all over it.

    We never did babyproof ours but we moved when Sean was about 16 months and had been walking for a while.  So far so good but you never know.  I've heard about the foam bumpers but don't know anyone who has used them.

    We have nothing on the brick of our fireplace but it's in a room that G did not really play in until she could walk well, now she knows it's not a place we allow her to sit or play on so she generally avoids it.   

    I do have one of the really large mounted configurable metal gates that they sell to block off the hearth area elsewhere in the house.  They come in plastic or metal.  When I was buying it the employee assumed I was blocking off a hearth and she said I should buy the metal version if I plan to use the fireplace rather than the plastic because it could melt.  I thought it was weird because I would think the metal would get hot.
