Thanks to everyone who replied to my post asking about dermatologists. I just thought I would update you on my experience. I saw Dr. Balasz at Beavercreek Dermatology and she was really cool. I've had some bad acne since this fall and I've never really had problems before this. When I called to make the appt, I had to wait 3 weeks to get into to see her. They offered to have me see another dr, but I wanted to wait for her, since I heard such good things.
So when I went in for the appt she really worked with me to find a prescription for something that wouldn't interfer with the medication that I was already on. And she worked to find a prescription that I wouldn't have to be off of for long before TTC (which we are planning to do this summer - yay!). I told her that our insurance sucked, so she also looked into the prices of the prescriptions and gave me some type of coupon card to use for one of the creams.
I was also worried that I would have to come back and see her alot (we have a $50 copay - yuck). But she said she would only see me back at 6 weeks and that if things were going well, that would be it. Nothing has really changed yet, but I haven't been on the prescriptions for long either. So hopefully it will just be for 1 more appt for a while...
So, overall it was a good experience. I hope the follow-up appt goes just as well.
Re: Dayton Girls re:Dermatologist
I am really glad to hear this, because I was worried you'd get stuck with a bad nurse and that would be it. Did you specifically ask to see her when you made your appointment? I keep wondering why DH and I got stuck with NPs and never saw her. This helps a lot, though.
What cream did they give you? When I went in (acne flare-ups after DD was born were what I initially went in for, although I ended up having to have some birthmarks biopsied), they gave me EpiDuo, which has worked really well. If they gave you something else that doesn't work, ask about EpiDuo because I know they always have samples there and there are a lot of coupons floating around for it.
Erin, I did ask to see her. And she gave me spironolactone. I am also on Metformin right now, because of irregular AF. I have some wierd hormone issues happening since I had DD.
The cremes she gave me to use are Ziana and clindamycin.
I really really hope these all work. But if not, I will keep yours in mind too. I am not a medicine taker... like I rarely take advil if I have a headache. But I know I am having problems, so hopefully all this stuff works well in combination with each other. We will see...
Thanks Rachel,
Ziana is the prescription I was having problems getting. It took forever for my insurance to work on it and then the coupon card thingie that the dr gave me wasn't working right. Such a pain.
So I am going to try to use it tonight. I'll be prepared for some burning - I'm kind-of nervous now! I am supposed to use it every night. If it does bother me, can I use it every other day and will it still be effective? Maybe if I get really tipsy tonight before I put it on, it won't feel as bad...
Jen- that is crazy! I'm just assuming that you want to talk about your issues in public here, haha - but are you taking the Metformin for PCOS? I have ?s about it and my obgyn isn't so easy to get answers out of (my AWESOME obgyn just left and I am still trying to figure this new guy out). Anyways, I am not taking it for PCOS, my dr thinks I have a fibroid or polyp on my uterine lining and thinks that is the cause of my irregular cycles. It's not seeming to work really well right now either so I'm hoping it kicks in here soon. Blah.
I never had any issues before DD, but I was always on the pill. Since I've had her I've gotten acne and hairier. Awesome.
And I just put the Ziana on and NO burning! Yay! My skin must be desensitized to all the years of first and second hand smoke I exposed it to.
