vitamins?

I'm EBF and my DD was in the NICU and I think that they said something before we were discharged that we would need to supplement her with some sort of vitamin?  I just can't remember and can't find anything in my paperwork about it?  Do any of you give vitamins to your EBF babies?

Re: vitamins?

  • Some pedis recommend vit D drops, but mine says that as long as we get 10 minutes of sunshine a day we are good. However, when he worked in NY (so further north) he did recommend them.

He has me taking a crazy amount of Vit D...we see a family doc and he said it's more common for mom to be low.  I know I take 3 pills a day, I think each are 1000 mg.

  • My doctor has us giving LO Poly Vi Sol - we got them at CVS.

  • We give DS the Target brand infant vitamins per our doc's request.  They come in a dropper and can be found in the pharmacy section.  One suggestion, try giving them at bath time because sometimes he won't swallow them and it's a messy process!

  • I myself take Vitamin D supplements. I live in New England and can't always get in the sun daily. The pedi still wanted us to give the poly vi sol.  Now that LO is used to it he will take it but it wasn't so in the beginning. I found that putting the dropper back in the corner of his mouth works best. In the beginning have a burp cloth handy. It's messy and the vitamin can stain if not treated right away.

  • We were told to supplement with Trivisol drops.  It contains vitamins A, C and D.
