Do you disinfect all of DC's toys after illness

After your LO has gotten over his/her ickies, do you disinfect/wash all of their toys?

I just want to know what to do w/ all of G's stuff after he gets through HFMD. The plastic/wooden toys will be easy to spray/wipe down, but I don't really know how to handle some of the cloth/electronic toys like his Scout -- I can't exactly shove that in the washer.

So... do you go through the due diligence of de-lousing your home after an infectious illness and if so, how?

  • Viruses generally live only a short time on surfaces. The longest would be 48 hours. They live longer on hard surfaces than soft (porous) surfaces like fabric etc. If you have something you can clean, great, if not, just keep it away for a couple of days. If it's soft, or fabric, it probably doesn't matter.

Good to know! I have a couple of the cloth toys he won't miss at all that I can pull out of the toy chest for a few days.

  • We've recently went thru a bout of back-to-back colds/viruses so I washed the boys' bedding, blankies, etc every couple of days to help combat that. I also did a little extra wiping down of their favorite toys to help minimize germs.
