So I started the mini pill this week, and since they're all the same pill (I was previously on a tri-hormone pill, but I'm bf'ing, so that's why I chose the mini pill)... do you still get your AF during the 4th week? I haven't had a post-partum AF yet, but I was just wondering when I should expect it, even if I don't get it this month.
Also, I was thinking originally that I wanted to take it at night, and so I have been, but now I'm thinking when I go back to work, it might be smarter to take it in the morning... how can I transition to that? Would it be ok to take it a half-hour earlier/later each night until I get to the time that I want to take it in the mornings?
Re: stupid mini pill questions
I just went on it too and am not sure about when/if to expect AF. OB said it may not come at all, which freaks me out because I got pg with Grady on the mini-pill! (I was having regular periods though, so...) Anyway, I'm curious to know what others have to say about this. And if you don't get a period, do you just randomly POAS?
As far as changing up the time, you should be fine to just change to taking it in the morning. It might make you a little queasy since you'll be taking two pills in less than a 24 hour period, but as long as you don't miss a pill, I think it's ok. You can always call your doc to check, though.
I took the minipill for about a year when I BF'd my first baby so I have some experience. I did not get a period at all for that year I was BFing and on the minipill until about a month after I quit BFing. So no, you won't get a period on that last week like you did with regular BC pills. Yes, you will want to stock up on HPTs b/c you will be wondering if you are pg all-the-time. The minipill works by thickening cervical mucus, thinning the uterine lining and preventing ovulation something like 50% of the time--that is why they will give it to you if you are BFing b/c most people are not ovulating so that helps with the odds. Once you get a real period, you are probably ovulating and once that happens to me, I won't feel too safe on the minipill. JMHO, ask your dr... All that said, I am on the minipill again this time too.
With the minipill you also have to take it every day within a 1 hr window to get it's best effects (which others on here will tell you are like 83%). So, for 48 hrs after you switch from taking your pill at night to in the morning you will want to use a back up method of birth control...
