But other then that sisters named Destiny and Deja (as in Deja Vue)
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

There are some waspy names that are just horrible. I met a little girl named Corvan, a boy named Austi, a woman who had her name legally changed as an adult to Puddin and of course there's a Buffy and a Blair in DH's family. barf
Imagine if you were someone reading this thread and saw your name here.
I really don't understand the point--would someone like to help me understand?
Please. If people post names that are common but just not their style, like Molly or Stella, then that's mean. If people understand the concept of the OP, then you'll get valid replies like Rage and Velvet and Pepsi.

Relax.
So, if a name is common it's mean to make fun of it, but if it's not--then it's okay? How does that make sense?
Undra - which wouldn't be SO horrible but his last name was Ware. UGH. I was hoping he was a woman and somehow got saddled with that as a married name, but nope.
Also, Queen and Queenie, OohLaLa (seriously).
These are all students at the university I work for.

Because 'pepsi-cola' is not a name. I doubt anyone on this board is named that. But Molly is a name. You are taking this WAY too seriously.

What is your deal with this thread Welch? Is your child named Pepsi or Toyota or something? Get over it.
And thanks for the dictionary.com lesson, I was unaware what the word name meant. However if you believe that a name is any combo of words then you probably will be offended by what people don't like on this board.

mr&mrswelch:name: a word or a combination of words by which a person is designated, called, or known. So, pepsi-cola is a name if someone decides to call their kid that...Next argument. There's a chance someone on this board could be named Goodluck and LaPrincess, too, so I don't see the difference between this post & any others. Like you said, it's a name - and this is a board about names. So...that's the "point" of this post.
What is the big deal really? People have opinions. I hate Stella. Yes it is a real name. Yes I will never name my child it. If I come across a Stella in real life, I am not going to barf in her face. I just really hate the name. If you get all weepy over a person thinking your name is horrible, you need to grow thicker skin. Really!

1) No, that wasn't mean. If you don't like Molly, that's okay! I thought you were joking when you said that, but it really doesn't hurt my feelings! I don't like Kaydith, or Rage, or most made up and object names, and that's the whole "point."
2) It was not my intention to stir up controversy here. It seems like half the time we use this board to feel out names that we truly like and the other half of the time is to laugh about silly ones. I'm sorry if that was offensive to you but I think everyone else got the "point."

#2 EDD 2/5/13 dx with anti-BIG E antibody, seeing a MFM
I don't take one single minute for granted.
My last midwife had one of her moms name their little girl Chlamydia. The mother was insistant on using it, even after it was explained to her that it was the name of a STD, because she thought it was beautiful!
I went to school with a Wesley Wesley and a *** *** (and *** was his proper name, not a Richard!)

This is from my first NICU delivery-- baby boy born. Me:"what's his name" Dad: Trebor. Me: "Oh Trevor, that's a great name." Dad: No, not Trevor. TREBOR. ?I'm dyslexic and my name is Robert. ?My wife thought it would be easier for me with Trebor. ?Me: silence...
1) I am plenty relaxed, and not feeling particularly hormonal today. Bringing up either of these things is not a legitimate response to the arguments that I am making.
2) I don't have a problem with the name molly, one of my best friends from high school was named molly. I was trying to make a point.
3) Neither my kid nor myself have/will have particularly rare names. But again, that is beside the point.
4) There is a difference between saying that you don't like a name and that it is "trashy" or the "worst" name you have ever heard. Worst implies that names have some inherent value--they do not. On a related note, ALL names are made up names, and ALL names are ethnic names. Additionally, the use of the term "you-neek" on this board is just a thinly veiled racist/classist statement.
5) Ms. Molly, I get that like you said, many people on this board spend half the time ridiculing names that they don't like. I don't understand this. Why spend your time doing this--making fun of people behind their backs? About something as personal and meaningful as their name? Would any of you participate in a thread titled "Who are the ugliest people you've ever seen IRL (bonus points for PIPs)?" It's the same idea. That's not the kind of person that I want to be, and if I can help someone else see that's not the kind of person they want to be either, then speaking up about how I don't agree is worth it.
6) If anyone has an actual legitimate, logical argument to defend this kind of behavior--I am all ears.
Oh, was that mean? So is this whole stupid post.Imagine if you were someone reading this thread and saw your name here.I really don't understand the point--would someone like to help me understand?
Keep it up. Your n00b tears nourish me. Did you name your baby Destiny or Jayden or Jaxon? Do you know that you've done wrong, and you're trying to cover?

1)Hormones make people think irrationally. But, if you say it's not hormones, I guess it's just you...I was just going to be nice and blame hormones.
2)You didn't make a point. At all.
3)You're right, totally not the point of this post. So why are you posting about it?
4)It's all relative. Again, are you monitoring this board for the ACLU? Obviously you think unique spellings of names exist b/c the parents are of a certain race/social status. You said it, not me.
5)Why would someone care what a complete stranger thinks about their name? Everyone has different opinions about different things. Just so happens that most people on this board think that Coca Cola is a bad name. It must just be a coincidence
6)You have totally missed the point of this post and you need a nap. Now, go cool off.

Jumping all over complete strangers on a BABY NAME board b/c you took something the wrong way, when obviously everyone else got it...yeah, that's irrational in my book. Sorry for the run-on sentence, but you deserved it.

Actually, telling people on these threads that their names are bad is definitionally NOT making fun of them behind their backs.
I do it for the babies, personally.
