Breastfeeding

XP: The ultimate boob failure

So breastfeeding has been tough from day one. I have a flat nipple that he's never been able to latch onto. I've had a horrible supply that we've had to supplement from the beginning. Then I got mastitis last week.

The past few weeks DS has been spitting up horribly and after trying to narrow it down, I realized that everytime he had my breastmilk he would vomit 2 or 3 ounces at at time. I wondered if he was allergic to it. Then I found out my mom was allergic to her mom's milk.

We saw the pedi today, and while he wouldn't confirm that it was my breast milk, he did say the the dry skin on his forehead is the sign of allergies, and it was rare, but possible that it was my milk.

So after 9 weeks, (which, after week 1, is 8 weeks longer than I thought I'd make it) I am officially done breastfeeding.

  • First, he's adorable.

2nd, it's not a failure.  Good for you for sticking it out, and I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.

    Hugs.

  • Definitely not a failure.  You planned to breastfeed, but LO had other plans.  I think that's the story of our lives now that we have kids.

Good for you for sticking it out through all the hard times.  You did what you could.   Best of luck!

  • I'm so sorry you have to quit, but you did great. LO got some benefits from it I'm sure. I do have a question about the allergies, though. Does dry skin on the forehead ALWAYS mean allergies, or is it along with other stuff. LO has reflux and really bad cradle cap along with dry skin on her forhead and even cradle cap in her eyebrows. She also had really bad baby acne--that has cleared up mostly now.

  • That's a far cry from being a failure!  You stuck it out through a lot of obstacles.  Good for you!  Your ds is absolutely adorable, btw! Smile
  • I am totally skeptical that he is allergic to you. maybe allergic to something you ate. But not you. From what I hear, that is like a less than 1% chance that is possible.

get  him tested for milk allergy. I bet that's it
