Talk to me about travelling with a Pack and Play

So, you might be surprised to hear that the Fam and I are going to see Isha this weekend! (lol)

My plan all along has been to bring the pack and play and check it on the airplane. I'm wondering if that is a lot of unnecessary effort. Tell me about this - have you done it? Was it worth it? What are my alternatives?

Landon doesn't roll over yet, or pull himself to sitting. Could I make him a bed on the floor safely? Should I go through the work because the walls might be more familiar to him (not that he's ever used it before, lol).

HELP!

  • I wouldn't haul that thing down there for a weekend.  Eff that.  Can Isha find one on craigslist?  I'm sure he could sleep on the floor and be perfectly safe or you could just keep him in bed with you.

  • At this age, you never know if that night will be the night he decides to roll because he sees something cool he wants to play with when he's supposed to be sleeping.  You could always bedshare, but if he goes to bed way before you, that could be a problem.  Also, bedsharing might create a habit you'll have to break when you get back home.  I'd probably go through the hassle of bringing it.

After this week of being sick, I think I already have a habit I'll have to break when I get home.

The challenge with the bed sharing though is that we will be sleeping on an Aerobed, and I'm not sure that would be very conducive or safe with the baby?

  • I wouldn't cosleep with a newborn on an Aerobed, but a 6 month old should be fine.  I slept with Riley on an air mattress when she was sick and we were visiting back home.

My answer is based on the fact that unless they are sick or have nightmares, the duo will not co-sleep anymore.  They need to be in their own space, and the PNP is the safest way to do that without a crib.  If he'll co-sleep though, I'd probably just do that.  It's only a couple nights.

Isha loves Ozy, but money is tight and I have no reason to have a pack and play, esp when we are hoping to move soon :(

Well, I'm sure she would pay you back silly girl.  Then just resell it.

  • Well, TW thinks her mom might have one I can borrow, so that would be nice. I might skip bringing it. I don't know. Argh.

I suppose DH will be the one actually carrying it, I'll just be pushing the stroller, right?

  • and see, if you had come to NC, this wouldn't be an issue as I have access to one.

I had to throw that in there. Stick out tongue

  • We take the PNP with us when we travel overnight.  So far, that has only meant car trips, but I'd probably do it for a plane trip too.  He won't co-sleep anymore.  Still it hasnt been that big of a deal.  I take everything but the actual PNP out of the bag.  He has napped/slept fine in it, despite having not slept in it since he was teeny.

  • We traveled with Allie on a plane about that age and it was pretty easy to take.  I would take it and check it.  Our PNP arived safely and returned safely.  Our airline even put it in a plastic bag to keep it from getting dirty. I say take it.

Ok. I guess it's not so bad. If TW doesn't come up with one we'll just bring it.

Thanks all! Except JCam and GC, y'all are jerks. ;P just kidding!
