NBR: Insurance Brokers

I had several suggestions to talk to one in my insurance post. How do they work? Do they charge you a flat fee?

Re: NBR: Insurance Brokers

  • Ours is on commission from the insurance companies.  We didn't have to pay anything to her at all.  My DH has an agent he works through for business, car, and homeowners insurance and asked him for a referral for a health insurance broker.  He ended up sending us to someone right out of his same office.  It worked out really well.

  • It's usually built into the premium and, I think, is a percentage.

I see where that makes sense. That is helpful to know as well. Thanks!

  • Ours gets paid through whatever company we end up going with so it doesn't cost us anything extra to use him.  He is able to provide different plans through different companies so you can pick what works best for you.  He's also a good representative for us if something ever comes up and is more than willing to contact the insurance to dispute things if needed.
